The second answer is wrong..... sears mowers are not made by murray or mtd (which are also not affiliated with each other) they are made by AYP (american yard products) which is owned by electrolux.... ayp makes the husqvarna line.... (which electrolux owns)
There is a difference.... with sears, you get basically the same quality as husqvarna. With mtd... you get a wrinkled stamped steel frame, all on a mower that's not worth fixing after about 5 or 6 years (dubbed throw aways) mtd owns bolens, cub cadet, troybilt, and white.
The john deeres sold at home depot or lowes are much lower quality then a genuine john deere made tractor sold at john deere dealers.... I've looked at them myself... cheaper looking then mtds in some areas of construction.
With sears, you get good quality, at a good price and a darn good warranty. And no I do not work at sears... I did buy a lt2000 last year... only problems with it has been the hood squeaking and a tire went flat from running something over. Otherwise flawless.
2004 42" Husqvarna 4 hours run time. Operating, runs fine - strong. Engage deck and engine strains and can't drive both features, take out of drive and blades turn but I suspect not freely. Have taken deck assembly off and checked - all pulleys spin freely with no belt. Could it be the electric clutch? It does make engagement and dis-engagement sounds. If it goes out does it gradually fail or all at once?
4 hours? Does it still have a warranty? If so.....leave it alone as it may void the warranty..... either take it back or get them to fix it.
Yes it could be the clutch.

Husqvarna has finally revealed a concept electric riding lawn mower they’re calling the Panthera Leo . It uses li-ion phosphate batteries and can run for 2 hours before needing a charge. It has five motors, quiet operation, and very unique looks.
The front of the motor looks a lot like an electric rotary razor. You know, those ones the commercials promise gives a close shave with the “floating, independent heads?” Hopefully the mower works better than the razors. Incidentally, the cutting deck’s individual heads do float independently on this mower.

Guys, I think it's more of a variable "plane" deck than a variable "width" deck. As I read the news release, it sounds like each of the three blades/decks can move up and down independently of each other, "the Panthera Leo uses three cutting decks suspended independently, so it can cut evenly over bumpy terrain". And as far as I'm concerned, I've yet to see any residential lawn mower with a deck anywhere near 42" wide that can follow the contour of the normal yard any better than the Elec-Trak's front mounted deck. You'd have to have an awfully bumpy yard to need such a complex mowing deck as this Husqvarna appears to have, and you might be better off with...
