It turns over fine, it just wont start. It is a briggs & stratton 24 hp twin cylinder engine on a 2006 Husqvarna. Someone left the dipstick out and mowed with it. I know this is a dumb question but i was wondering if there is some things i could check before i pay hundreds on repairs or a new engine. like I said it turns overs fine, I have spark, it just wont fire at all. I appreciate the help!!
Well, you might as well check for the most probable. See if you can borrow a compression tester. You may be able to rent or borrow one from a car parts place like AutoZone. Check your compression. Its been awhile, but the numbers of 115 or 125 are floating around my head. If its down around 70 that would be bad.
If the numbers are good, that's 1/3rd of the triangle. The triangle is compression, ignition and carburation. You said have good spark, so thats another 1/3rd. Hit the air filter with some ether, or you can use carb cleaner. If the engine fires, then theres something wrong with your carburator.

I have a Husqvarna (YTH2448) 24hp riding lawnmower that is giving me problems. When in drive, the engine lopes. When I engage the mowing deck it stops and the idle speed picks up, but when I have the speed/acceleration down low and mowing deck unengaged, it sounds like it's about to shut off. I've changed spark plugs (has 2), new fuel filter, changed the oil filter, cleaned air filter, vacuumed any debris out from around the motor and still have the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Depends on the carburetor. The ones I'm familiar with have 2 idle set screws. One for low idle, one for power. sounds like the low idle needs adjusting. If you do decide to play with the settings, 1) mark the screw head and carburetor before doing anything so you know where you started. and 2) keep track of the number of turns you give it. Pen and paper are a real good idea. Turn a quarter turn at a time. Start counter-clockwise.
