Is it AYP (American Yard Products)? Or someone else?

Once upon a time it was AYP. Currently, Craftsman and Husqvarna tractors sold at Sears are made by Husqvarna Outdoor Products, a North American division of the Swedish lawn and forestry manufacturer Husqvarna. Any Craftsman tractor with 917 as the first three digits of its model number was built by this manufacturer.

I personally like Husqvarna better than John Deere. It's also easier to find parts in my area and servicemen with the know-how to work on them. If you're a homeowner, the John Deere is probably great. But if you're considering purchasing one of the two for commercial mowing, I'd say go with the Husky.

any time i engage the blades the mower starts losing power and then cuts out! any ideas whats wrong??

I have a Husqvarna (YTH2448) 24hp riding lawnmower that is giving me problems. When in drive, the engine lopes. When I engage the mowing deck it stops and the idle speed picks up, but when I have the speed/acceleration down low and mowing deck unengaged, it sounds like it's about to shut off. I've changed spark plugs (has 2), new fuel filter, changed the oil filter, cleaned air filter, vacuumed any debris out from around the motor and still have the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the carburetor. The ones I'm familiar with have 2 idle set screws. One for low idle, one for power. sounds like the low idle needs adjusting. If you do decide to play with the settings, 1) mark the screw head and carburetor before doing anything so you know where you started. and 2) keep track of the number of turns you give it. Pen and paper are a real good idea. Turn a quarter turn at a time. Start counter-clockwise.

Ok, so there is this little pin that feels like its on a spring on the back of my lawnmower. Its called a control As. Bypass Hydro. What does this do?

Well, I called the good folks at Husqvarna ((800) 448-7543) and they were kind enough to inform me that that lever/switch back there is intended to engage or disengage the transmission - so that if you want to move the mower without turning it on, you reach back there and pull it out. Once you get ready to run it using the engine again, you make sure it is pushed back in so that the transmission can run the wheels - essentially when the pin is out, you are in neutral, and when it is in, you are in gear. I hope this helps, if not, feel free to call them, they were very nice even when I told them I did not own one but was merely asking for a friend. ;)
