How to remove the PTO clutch and pullys from the engine shaft of a john deere 130 riding mower?

looking for a website for diy john deere mower repair and maintenance?

Other than removing the bolts, brackets and set screws you may need a pulley puller. You can buy them at your local auto parts store. It basically has three or four arms that grab the sides of the clutch and/or pulleys and a center bolt that pushes against the shaft. Turning it in will pull with equal force.
I attached a photo for reference, get the proper size that you need.

I have a John Deere Mower the hood is cracked, how do I repair it?

I used an epoxy to glue it together but it cracked in another spot. The problem is where you pull to lift the hood is to weak I need to reinforce it but it is not a flat spot so I need something that can be curved like the hood. Thought about fiberglass but not sure if it will hold. I have some thin metal but dont want to drill holes to attach it to the hood. A new one is to expensive $380

Okay, I know I'm going to get alot of bad comments about this but I know it works because I fix everything that is possible to fix and I don't always use accepted or routine methods to do so. Sand the section of the hood you want to repair so you have something to attach it to.
Go to the auto repair shop or Farm and Fleet. There is a fiber material (It's actually fiber glass) used for body work. There is a can of fiberglass stuff that is used with it (can't remember the name off the top of my head). Anyway, you pour the liquid into a flat container and dip the material in it (make sure it is cut to size and properly fitted before you do so) then you place it over the crack and smooth it down good. Let it dry, sand it (or if you did a great job of smoothing it, you could just paint over it). It reinforces the metal and works just great. The liquid dries very fast so be sure you are absolutely ready to apply it before you pour it into the pan. And for goodness sake -- be sure to use rubber gloves. I've used it on Dirt Devil Vaccuum Cleaner fronts (they're plastic). The Dirt Devils had such great suction that the plastic fronts sucked in and cracked -- poor testing and design I presume but my modification allows my vaccuum to suck bowling balls. Since I didn't paint the patch, the vaccuum doesn't look so pretty but it sure sucks!

If you don't want to use fiberglass, then you can get pieces of screen (Screen can be molded) and use regular body putty or Maxi Glue to glue the screen to the hood. It will give it a little extra strength. Additionally, there is the pipe hanger tape -- it's metal tape that has holes in it. You can use self-tapping sheet metal screws to screw the metal tape to the inside of the hood to reinforce it or you can use an instant (we like Maxi glue) glue to glue the metal tape to the hood.

There is also aluminum tape that can be fitted and molded to hard to fit spots. It is water-proof and is used for pipe and body repair.

There are so many great new products out there today that can be modified to be used on other things that there is hardly any reason to throw away something that works anymore.

You might be better off going to a junk yard or a garage sale or drive around your neighborhood looking for one that is being junked on trash day.

My mower was stolen from a John Deere dealership during a warranty repair. Who is liable for my loss?

I took my 10 month old John Deere mower($4300) with 20 hours on it to a local dealership for some warranty repairs to done. Dealer calls me to inform me my mower was stolen. He said I needed to contact my Homeowners insurance to file a stolen claim for my mower. He said he was not liable for replacing my mower since it was stolen in a "secure area". I don't quite feel a chain link fence is very secure after the fact. My question is. Who is liable for replacing my mower. And if he is liable would my mower be considered a new mower for replacement value since it was less than a yr old and with 20 hours on it? My homeowners would cover the loss but I have a $1000 deductible! The dealership told me his theft insurance would deny any claim since it was considered in a secure area. Do I have a legal case against him or his insurance company or is this my loss? Thanks for any advise!

They can tell you anything, but it doesn't mean it's true. The dealership is trying to get out of taking responsibility for the theft. We had trouble with an insurance claim once for hail damage on one of our mobiles. The state attorneys office straightened them out fast.
I'd start with letting them know who all I was going to report their tacky business antics to---and just go on up from there.

John Deere riding mower burning excessive oil. Is it better to replace or repair engine. JD refuses to fix?

I have taken to two different dealers. One refused to recognize it was burning oil. The other went to a list of probable causes and informed me that I probably did not install the air clearner properly so they would not honor warranty.

You my friend have learned a lesson..... deere will even screw you over.... most will try and make it look as though you are at fault. Some engines do use oil, but not enough to even measure on the dipstick. You could have a faulty breather (if its a ohv engine, a blown head gasket) or rings of course..... wasn't run low on oil? I would try and either get them or the engine maker to do something before I replaced the engine.

John Deere lawnmower repair?

How much might it cost to have the alternator fixed or replaced on a 2005 John Deere manual transmission riding mower? having jump start the battery everytime I mow. A charge will get me through mowing a half acre yard.

An alternator is about 100 dollars I think. Kind of hard to say without knowing how big the tractor is. Some big tractor alternators are 150 dollars.
