Try your book store, get one for small engine repair. Check you local liberary, and see what they have before you spend money on the wrong books.Or go to the colledge and ask them which would be the best. If they have one then go to the book store and order it.
After removing a lawn mower#39;s fuel tank to access the carburetor, the carburetor can be cleaned with a carburetor cleaner or a simple brush ...
Our lawn mower stoped working yesterday, the metal wire that runs from the dead-man switch at the handle down to the engine broke somewhere inside it's tiny little tube. It's quite obvious that this is the problem, since you can squeeze the handle and the wire pulls out one end and you can see that it doesn't pull the wire on the other end.
How much does it cost to fix one of these at a shop, or how easy/cheap would it be to fix it ourselves? is this like a part that would be easily avaliable to joe public?
The part is readily available........probably were you bought the mower, but definetly through the mfg.
Cost's about $20 and is a self explanatory installation. Your repair shop will charge about $20. to install the part.
I would go to the parts store with make/model number, order the part (it's probably in stock) and DIY. Good Luck
The pull cord broke on my Briggs & Stratton 5 HP engine. I have threaded the cord back into the pully but the rewind will not work. Is there something I'm missing or is the rewind spring broken also? Will I need to replace the entire housing?
Your spring has sprung. You need to recoil the spring. I've done it & yes it will take 3 hands.
Have an old mower with a briggs and stratton engine. I can't get the coil to produce spark. most of the time, i just sand the rust off the coil and the flywheel but that doesn't seem to work this time. Are there any other spots that need to be cleaned or any wires that need fixed?
There should be a little ground wire attached to it that was bolted down with one of the two bolts that hold the coil on, sand it shinny and also the location where it bolts to.... Try that, Also when you attach the coil back use one card from a deck of playing cards to guage the distance from the flywheel, The spacing off the flywheel could play big part in it not firing, also sand the flywheel
Engine will turn over once and then stop. By bumping starter it will turn over again once and stop. Acts like too much compression. Have had this problem in the past and taken to the shop and had repaired several times. Am tired of the expense of repairs. Mower is old (2001)but runs good. Have asked the repair shop what causes this and was told carburation and valve timing. If so how do I adjust valve timing?
the overhead valve engine requires a valve adjustment occassionally, this is done by removing the valve cover, turning the engine to top dead center on the compression stroke and going past top dead center 1/4". then with a feeler guage you set the valve clearance to .004, you can purchase a repair manual from your nearest Briggs & Stratton dealer that instructs you step by step on how to do this, the manual is less than $20.00 and is a great investment for a doitselfer.
