Mower repair shop took my mower for repair. It has been almost two months for a simple 30 min repair but every time I call they say they are bringing it back this week but they never show. What can I do.

Something doesn't sound right here.
I'd first go to the repair shop and ask to see your mower. At this point you don't even know if he has it. He may have sold it by mistake or something.
If they do have your mower then you can arrange a date and time for it to be delivered.
If its not there then you can work out some way for them to replace it or take them to small claims court. I'd ask for more than the mower is worth because of your time and being without your mower. If you had to have someone else mow your grass for you take your receipts and add them to your claim.

I own a 4 -5 year old push style Craftsman lawn mower. The other day when trying to start it the entire ripcord pulled completely out. I called my local mower repair shop and they said it's going to cost me $45 to 55 bucks to repair.

Is this something I can do myself?

You will have to remove the starter assembly from the engine. Get some cord the same size and length as the original. As you remove the old cord you will see where it goes and where the knot is tied.. Once you get the new cord in place and knoted you will have to "wind" the cord around the pully to tension the spring. It is not a hard job but you have to remove several screws to get the starter off.

I have a lawn mower repair shop. When I took it over many years ago, I discovered a LOT of obsolete parts - most of them are small parts, like condensers & contacts. I want to find a dealer of obsolete parts and hopefully sell these to them.

Do an Ebay search and see if you can find anyone selling these parts, then you can see what their selling for and if they might buy them from you. Or just sell them on Ebay yourself.

- Everyone, thanks for your comments. I appreciate the input. It's a push mower (my mom's). Just found out that a guy I know would highly recommend the repair shop that I brought it to. So, since my wanted one with an electric start anyway, looks like we will be going that route. Thanks again.

I just picked up a simplicity riding lawnmower with a 14 hp Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine that had the valve seat fall out of the head. After pulling the head off, there was no damage to the piston or cylinder. I picked up a used head for $60 plus a head gasket and put it back together and runs like a champ. Unless there was collateral damage from the seat falling out causing the valve to contact the piston, I don't see why the entire engine would need to be replaced. But, I can't see the engine so I can't know all the details. Ask them if the can just replace the head or if the piston needs to be replaced as well. Also, how old is the mower and is it worth fixing the old engine or just replacing it?
