When the motor is running the blade is turning, the pull handle/lever ingauges only the wheeles
When the motor is running the blade is NOT turning when I pull up on the lever the wheeles turn and the blade still does not turn. no belts to check .
if it has a lever that you depress to start the blade it has a clutch assembly on the bottom that will to be replaced. my honda is set up like that.

I was checking out the blade on my Toro by tipping the lawn mower all the way back on the two back wheels. Bad idea. Then I noticed Oil was coming out of the muffler. Ever since, it hasn't started. What can I do to solve this?
I've had this happen to me countless times before! Do not try and start the mower. Leave it set for awhile to let any excess oil run back into the oil sump, then take out spark plug. Crank or pull engine over a few times and watch for any oil coming from spark plug hole. Also you may want to take off the muffler and do the same, checking for oil out the exhaust opening. Blow excess oil from muffler then re-install. Next, take and remove air filter element and wash in mild dish soap and water, alow to air dry completely before re-assembly. Install new "hotter" range spark plug (example if mower came originally with Champion CJ8 plug, install a LM19 or equivelent, top up oil level in engine and everything should work just fine!! Happy mowing!!
It's a Toro and about 3 yrs old. Everything works/runs great except for the self propel function. I'm pretty handy and am going to take a shot at fixing it....any and all advice appreciated
All the Toro drive systems use a belt from the engine to the transmission. The engagement is done mostly by tilting the transmission away from the engine to tighten the belt.
First see if the belt is there. Next, check and see if the engagement cable is working and attached to the transmission. If the problem is in the gear case, or the drive wheels, then take it to your Toro dealer.
If this is a cast Aluminum deck, take it to your dealer anyway. The cast decks have a 5 year warranty, and the drive system is covered.

I have a snowblower that has sat for over 5 years with less than 50 hours on it. It will not start now.
It's a Model:38175 Toro CCR Powerlite-e - Electric Start 1000*** series year 1991
I put fresh gas/oil mixure per manual. (Tank was emptied prior to storage.) I put in a new spark plug matching the old. Still it would not start.
I used carb cleaner and sprayed it in the carb via breather. The engine would run until what I would say. "The cleaner burnt off and the engine ran out of gas". So, i'd say. Because it started briefly it is getting a spark and capable of running. But, it's just not getting gas.
I went to prime it and the primer button shattered under my thumb from dry rot. I replaced the primer with the primer from my old toro snowblower.
Are there any other rubber or neopreme gaskets in this model that could have dry rotted and causing it not to start? (I know when I bought a used lawn mower this summer. The guy took the carb off and replaced a rubber gasket that acted like a fuel pump some how).
Does this model have something like that could have rotted?
Well, tomorrow I am checking hoses from tank and primer to carb.
Anyone else have any suggestions on what to look for ,replace or try as well?

Thanks Everyone who ANSWERED.
I found a local High School Vocational School with a small engine shop 3 blocks away from me.
Costed me $25.00 in parts. Labor was free due to the students doing the repair. (Check your local school though)
I dropped it off at 9:00 am and by 11 am sameday. I had it back in working order.
Probelm was with the float, needle and something else being corroded. They did say it was not gel build up. but, like rust corrosion from sitting so many years.

AND, I MUST ADD. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS. THEY WERE THERE FOR ME.
I would agree with PD, something is probably clogged up. When gas sits for a while it goes to a gel like state and gums up. Also I would check the diaphragm out it could have some tiny pin hole or tear causing it not to pull gas from the tank. My nephews go cart had the same problem, And a 22 cent part fixed it.....LOL...Hope this helps out.

Mower, I the following things:
1) Change the oil and filter change at least once per season, I (always read the instructions carefully and follow the factory recommendations. At the minimum, I change the oil and filter change at least once per season.)
2) Replace the blade with a factoryMulching blade (I have the best results with a product called had gator blade. With the change was a mulching blade, I on the need for bagging grass eliminate and improve the look of my yard)
3) Replace the spark plug at the beginning of each season (spark plugs usually cost less than two dollars, and often easier to start the Honda lawn mower for someone who is willing to pay $ 400 - $ 500 large for a machine to get the of long duration. If you are using a smaller budget, $ 250 - $ 400, I strongly recommend Toro Personal Pacebecause it is built very reliable, good, and has a unique system of self-propelled, it is very easy to use. The personal pace system actually varies the speed based on how hard you push, the harder you push, the faster it goes. I owned several Hondas and Toro and more for both my family and friends according to your budget and unique needs to be recommended.
