I have a Cub Cadet SRC-621 walk-behind mower that was purchased new in 2005. It stopped running in the middle of mowing this week, had used it 3 times so far this year w/o problems. Turn-around time for mower repair is 4-6 wks at this time of year, so I've chosen to replace it rather than pursue having it diagnosed and/or repaired.
Mower has history of several repairs in the past 4 years: head gasket in 06 (warranty repair) and crankshaft and end of season 08, and at least one breakdown in between that necessitated taking it to repair shop, but I can't remember the specific issue.
Here's some specs on this model: 6.5 Hp Kawasaki OHV engine, self-propelled, 6-speed transmission, rear-wheel drive, zero-turn radius.
What is a reasonable price to put on this non-running mower as-is to someone for parts or as a repair project?
who wants to buy a nonrunnning mower except someone who can fix it & turn it around for a quick profit? with that in mind, they wont pay much...better to get it fixed and keep it as a spare, or if space is a problem, sell it as running...
www.MTDParts.com shows you how to change the drive belt on a self-propelled, walk-behind lawn mower
The front wheels spins when engaged but have very little power so they are not able to propel the mower. First I thought maybe the front tires were worn to the point where it did not have traction with the grass. I checked on the driveway and the wheels are not strong enough to move the mower. Any ideas for the cause of weak drive wheels? And where do I begin with the repair? I'm somewhat handy and will try before bringing it to a repair shop. The mower is 10 years old and works well otherwise. Thanks.
there are so many things that can be causing this. First of all one would want to consider the way in which this particular self-propelling action actually works (there are several types, that can have their own distinct problem). Therefore , you may want to ; 1: Investigate a little further on your own- why not?- you may just solve your prob. , or; 2; take it to a repairman who may make you wish you would have just looked a little further. Good luck!

I need a new lawn mower, as both my riding mower and push mower are requiring too many trips to the repair shop to stay running. I can't afford a new riding mower, but I hate the small cutting area that a walk-behind mower usually offers. Is there a walk-behind lawn mower out there that has an extra large blade that provides a much larger cutting area?
Okay, I guess I should've said consumer grade walk-behind mower. If I could afford a commercial grade walk-behind mower, I would be able to afford a consumer grade riding mower, which I can't.
There are several brands of lawn mowers that have a 22" cutting area. That is about as large as you will find on a standard push lawn mower. From there, they go down to 21, 20, and even 17". You can find one of the 22" mowers at Home Depot or Lowe's or some other store like that. To get any larger than that would require that you buy an industrial mower or professional grade mower, which as you said you can't afford.
I need to repair the clutch on an Ariens self propelled walk behind mower. How do I do this and where can I find parts?
contact your local Ariens dealer to see if they have a repair manual that you can purchase
Hello people, I have purchased an older used12 horse Briggs & Stratton side valve engine to put on my mid size walk behind mower, I'm guessing it's circa late 80's or early 90's. I took the float bowl off to fix a leaking float needle and seat and was wondering what the knurled adjuster screw was used for at the bottom of the float bowl? It looks like a needle valve as well but I can only think fuel flow rate? I don't have a repair manual as I'm just winging it.
Thanks in advance!
THAT IS THE NEEDLE FOR THE MAIN JET,FUEL/AIR MIXTURE AT HIGH SPEED. ADJUST THIS NEEDLE AT HIGHER RPM'S WITH ENGINE COMPLETELY WARMED UP. MANY TIMES A RIDING LAWNMOWER (MOST LIKELY WHERE YOUR ENGINE CAME FROM) WILL BACKFIRE WHEN ENGINE IS SHUT OFF DUE TO MISADJUSTMENT OF THIS NEEDLE.
I am looking for a dipstick tube for a craftsman walk behind mower ...
Ach, never buy craftsman… the dipstick tube coming off is one of many pretty common problems, that's why most good mowers have Briggs & Stratton engines or Honda's or Kohler's. The one guy is correct, so call a small engine repair shop, give them your engine model number or check to see if the Tecumseh part number is correct, and order one. I DO NOT recommend ordering one from sears if they'll even let you order one. Their prices are outrageous and you get charged for shipping whereas ordering from a shop doesn't.
