You would have to re-gear it which is a lot of money. They usually build those things with the best gear-to-performance ratio and if you go too fast you don't get as good a cut.

i am low on lawn mower oil and i need to change the oil in my tractor. can i use some car oil? is there a problem with mixing it or should i use only one type?
Sure you can if it's clean SAE 30 engine oil.
I remember from a "The world is amazing." Discovery channel comercial, a guy set up a rope rig on his front lawn with a auto drive mower, some rope, a metal spike and what appeared to be some coffee cans.
He tied the throttle down on the drive system of the mower, then tied two ropes to the mower and a spike covered in cofee cans in the middle of his yard. the two ropes kept the lawmower turning around the spike as the length of rope pulled it closer as the radius of the circel grew smaller and smaller.
What I'm asking is if anyone knows the exact details on this rig? the legnths needed for the rope, how to set up the pike, and if it actually works?

I am looking to by an MTD riding mower with an auto tranny(not hydrostatic). The owner says it works by increasing the tension on the drive belt to make the unit speed up.
I know MTD has a spotty reputation, but I am mostly concerned about the auto drive system. Does anyone have any info on these mowers? Do they hold up well? Any problems?
The AutoDrive system is not the best system for propelling a lawn tractor across the yard, but they do work. Provided you don't attempt to pull anything over 100 pounds (US) with it, and change both drive belts yearly. The tractor should outlive the deck by several years.
