I have this old lawn mower and I am looking to use the engine for a go kart. It is the "Snapper big six" 6HP engine for a walk-behind mower by briggs and stratton. I am looking for a site where I can go to get the basics down about this mower and hopefully read a diagram about all the parts not only of the engine but of the parts of the mower too. Can anyone find a page where I can learn this? Any other tips about making go-karts!? Thank you!
You can get all the information on the engine at outdoordistributors.com. Type in the model number and you will get an exploded view with part numbers.

The lawn mower will start up and run fine, but when we push it over grass it shuts off. It's an old model, and my dad thinks it has to do with the carburetor. There are springs that attach to is which allows gas to be pumped to get everything going. Would it be possible to find a diagram of the carburetor in order to reattach or fix the springs? Or does anyone know have any ideas on how to fix them?
The air filter is clean, the only other option would be to take apart the carburetor, clean the parts, and then rebuild it. We are just wondering if there is a simpler solution to fix this problem.
Thanks!
Get the model number off the engine and go to outdoordistributors.com. Look up your engine model, it will give you an exploded view of the engine including the carburetor.
I can see 3 bolts but these bolts look like they hold the engine to the mower part. I need to know what it looks like and exactly where to look for it; is it big small, is it a screw or a bolt, etc. Thanks! P.S. - How much oil will it take?
Tip your mower on it side so the air cleaner and carburetor are up, and you need to look for a square hole on the under side of the engine. This hole will fit a 3/8" drive from a ratchet. We remove the blade, position a catch pan under the mower, remove the plug, lower the mower back down, and let it drain. The Quantum takes 20 ounces of SAE 30 oil. Make sure you reinstall the plug before you try and fill it back up with oil.
Recently purchased a Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine in nice condition but without an Owner's Manual. Would like to know about maintenence such as grease points, type of oil and grade of gasoline to use, etc. Sears and other parts suppliers say owner's manual is no longer available. Does anyone have a manual that they can copy and send me, or FAX, or scan and email, or just send so I can copy and return. Will pay for manual or efforts. Thanks.
Order one from here.

I have a yardman riding mower with a briggs&stratton I/C engine. I was using it in 4th gear going up a hill when it stopped moving. I turned it off and now i cant get it to start. I tried both the keys start and the pull cord. I didnt change any tires lately and it ran fine yesterday. It has new battery, spark plug, and has always started. I need to get this working or my lawn will be 1 foot tall. when it wouldnt move I turned the mower part on and it shook a lot. what could be causing it not to move? Why wont it start? and how can i fix it?
Customer support pages on http://www.YardMan.com might be of use. You can get the manual (with your serial number etc), which might contain helpful information...

After substantial experinece in helping people in the aftermath of hurricanes, I saw that hurricane Ike was about one week out from my house inland and decided I would not be one of those poor saps without a generator when the power went out. I went to every store around 50 miles of my house before I finally found a generator. It happened to be briggs and stratton elite series with 8000 running watts. It was the only one left and I knew it, so I bought it reluctantly from a tractor supply store in Texas. Well, after a week of having my power out from hurrican Ike I was thrilled with it. Heck, I was even able to watch dvd’s on my TV, and that was while I had the comfort of knowing my refrigerator/freezer was running along with fans to keep the heat down. It is dirt simple to use, it is rugged, and the only minor complaint I would make is it about as loud as a riding lawn mower. That really isn’t terrible though considering that it is a pretty powerful generator as “portable” units go. Thanks Briggs and Stratton, you never let me down.
...Cannot pull the starter cord on my Briggs amp; Stratton lawn mower ...
Is it in the retracted position and can you see any dents on the metal housing? Does the motor turn over? DISCONNECT the spark plug wire and remove the plug.
See if it will turn the motor over with a gentle tug. If not, see if you can turn the motor over with the blade. If it is still stuck, you have a more serious problem inside the motor.
If it does turn over, then you may have some sort of jamb with the recoil starter system. You can try removing the housing only and lubricating it. Look for broken parts too as sometimes they use a white metal alloy that sometimes breaks from over pulling with an improperly tuned motor…
One thing you might want to check first before taking everything apart. Remove the spark plug wire….tilt the mower on it’s side…..see if you can turn the blade by hand. Sometimes old mowers seize up over the winter…just need a little work ( turning blade a few rotations ) to free them up. Once it turns good…you can try to pull cord. If you still have a problem at that time…you will need to remove the top cranking part to free it up.
