and the part that keeps the belt working is missing. Well at least it is attacheted to a spring and you pull it through a cover and then you lock it and the belt works. With out it you can't use it proberaly. Does anyone know where i can get that part?
Have you tried Sears.com, they sometimes keep older parts in stock. If not, I don't know what to tell you. You're lucky that you've had your mower last that long.
Posted for a friend, in this video I show how to remove the fuel tank, fuel bowl, clean the metering valve and remove and install the primer bulb ...
bought new solenoid has 2 male ends ones for the key switch and other came with a ground wire, does it matter witch one is the ground, sear says the one by book has is no longer available, the one i bought say works with all craftmans, but has that extra male end, I think thats why it won't start, and suggestions,
Thanks You you for the help
could be a ground stud but I would check with sears it might be extra for a different model
tryed jumping hot wire to starter still not working, checked voltage on battery was 11v sometimes 10 v, tryed voltage going to key switch, when i turn switch I do get voltage, fuse is ok its 3 years old
Thanks for the help
The battery is bad. It will be 12.5 volts or so fully charged. Have you tried jumping it to a known good battery? It can be tricky jumping lawn tractors due to the location of the battery. Two people make it easier, you don't want to short out the cables on the tractor body.
With the voltage readings you show, I would guess your battery is bad.
My parents recently gave me their Craftsman 6.0 Eazy Start. It had been stored unused for 2 years. The gas tank was bone dry. I filled the gas tank up and added a little oil but it still will not start. I have presses the primer several times but still nothing.
The lawn mower was stored without any gas. The gas tank was bone dry before I added gas.
If it was put up with gas in it, as the above answer has stated... then... you've probably got a nice mess in your carburetor to clean up first.
But.....
It could also be that the bowl is just full of bad gas. Under the bowl is either a 7/16 nut or a 1/2 nut, more than likely with a needle valve sticking out of it. Loosen that nut up and see if any liquid comes out. If you do get liquid out of it, does it smell like gas or varnish. If it smells like varnish, let it drain until it smells like gas. If it stops and never smells like gas, or nothing comes out, bounce the mower a few times, the float needle has stuck to the seat.
Once the bowl has liquid that smells like gas in it, tighten the bolt back up and try starting it. If it doesn't start, or starts and runs like real crap, then you'll probably need to give the carb a good cleaning. If that doesn't work, buy yourself a rebuild kit, take the carb apart, soak it in lacquer thinner over night, then rebuild it per the instructions that will come with the kit.
That should solve your problem
It stoppped running so I tipped it on its side to check and see if a wire came off, it didn't so when I turned it back up and tried to start it, it wouldn't because there was gas in spark plug. I took plug out and blew out all gas and it started up. but, the next time I used it, it wouldn't start because it had gas in the spark plug again. Help
carberator has a stuck needle valve of bad float.
