We have a John Deere Lawn Mower model number L118 42" deck. It is cutting unevenly on one side. The blade on the right side cuts fine but the blade on the left scalps on the left side and leaves a long rough cut on the right of the blade or in the center of the mowing path. We put on new blades, but that didn't help. The blades look even. What else could be wrong?
Easy, either the deck is not level, or the spindle on the left side is worn out. To level the deck, check the tire pressure, 14psi r, 10 psi f, there are two leveling bolts that attach the deck to the lift. On a level surface, set the mower to the correct cutting height and then using a tape measure, check the height of the blade tips with the blades perpendicular to the mower. Turn the nuts on the leveling bolts to level the mower deck. Also check that the front-rear leveling is correct. The rear of the deck should be 3/4'' to 1'' higher than the front. Use the deck leveling bolts and the front hanger.
If the spindle is worn out, there should be a distinct scraping sound when you run the mower.
Take the mower to your local John Deere dealer and they will be able to fix the problem.

Our D120 review bran new great tractor
for a mother's day present, I am planning to mow the lawn for her. but I have no clue how to start the mower! please help!
My John Deere is a diesel, so I have to push the clutch in and turn the key (not all the way) until the glow plug warms up, about 5 seconds. Then keep the clutch in and turn the key! Mine is a large lawn tractor, so I am not sure if smaller sizes work the same. Most tractors require you to push in the clutch pedal (if you need to switch gears) and brake before you start it. This is a wonderful mother's day gift - good luck!
It is a 116 John Deere Riding Lawn Mower, it runs great but whenever i try to engage the PTO the blades won't spin. On rare occasions it will spin but if i try to mow grass the blades stop turning, the repairman told me that it was most likely the PTO Clutch. So like i said how hard is it to replace?
I am pretty sure, the belts are all there and i don't see any missing springs.
Assuming you are talking about an electric clutch. It is held onto the crankshaft with a bolt in the center of it and some bolts holding it to a bracket. Not a hard job. The worst part is the price of a new one. There is an ajustment to the clutch. There are three nuts looking at it from the bottom. Near each nut is a slot. You adjust the nut so that the gap in the slot is .012" with a feeler gauge. Are you sure that it is the clutch and not a bad belt or a missing spring on the tentioning pulley? If it is an electric clutch, they cost about $300.

...John Deere Lawn Mower Adds The Zero Turn
For homeowners, the seasonal task of cutting the lawn is a requirement, even though it’s sometimes greeted with a groan. However , with the introduction of the zero turn John Deere lawn mower, this chore has turned into a delightful ride. Even teens will get a kick out of the new handling system offered on these machines.
For those unaware of this particular piece of machinery, it is similar to a normal riding mower, but rather than having a steering wheel, it has two levers on both sides. After mounting the car, simply push both levers forward to go straight ahead ; to reverse, just pull backwards. To turn in any other direction, simply mix between the two. It’s even capable of spinning 360 degrees while remaining stationary.
