Eco Lawn Mower

Answers

Can you recommend a reliable lawn mower please.?

In your opinion which is the most reliable eco friendly lawn mower. My Briggs and Stratton has let me down big time after only 3 years wear. Regularly serviced and cared for but the carburettor keeps flooding and has to be dismantled and spark plug dried out. I cannot adjust choke or carburettor as it is self adjusting...apparently
I have taken this mower to two reputable repairers but both have said it's not worth repairing and this after only 3 years usage.

I was a mower mechanic and saw time and again folks whose mower had very similar problems, most of the time due to bad, dirty, or old gas that carburetors do not forgive. Bottom line, I'd really hate to see you spend more on something that might be a crazy cheap cause, and we both know that the lawnmower dealer is probably more interested in selling you something you don't really need, than have any genuine interest in helping you solve this ongoing problem. As for reliability, don't forget that your possessions are an interdependent relationship, that they are counting on you for the proper maintenance as much as you are to have them work when you need them. Personally, my observation is that you'd be better off taking the time to buy a repair book and some parts and rebuild the carburetor yourself, or buy a replacement and bolt it on, than listen to one more statement that your 3yr old isn't worth fixing, but you may not be as p/o'd as your story makes me. Lastly, my 1986 Snapper came with a B&S 3.5hp, I still do some sidejob fixes, and the motor you've got is a fine value per dollar, if it were mine, I'd fix it and tell your mowerguy to stick it.

Eco friendly lawn mowing?

Well, the rainy season in Florida has started and I figure I can save my mom plenty of money and start mowing the lawn myself. The thing is, I figure that I can find a way to do it in a "green" way. I've become very obsessed with getting around on my bike instead of a car and recycling and the whole lot. I know lawn mowers waste a lot of gas so I wanted to know is there a way to mow the lawn in an eco friendly way? Maybe I can buy an old fashioned lawn mower with no engine? If so, how much do they cost and where can I buy them? Thanks for your time and any suggestions are welcome.
I was looking at some walmart mowers online and the reviews didn't look so great in some places. Many people complained that the mowers couldn't handle the weeds. Is this because they are weak or because the mowers can't handle it? If its because the mowers can't handle it, are there better quality push mowers that can? Thanks again and keep coming with these responses!

You have several options.

1. Buy a manual reel mower - keep in mind they mow kinda low so you would have to make sure your grass wont die with one of these.

2. buy an electric push mower - they usually run 199.00-399.00

3. buy an low emission push mower - usually run 249.00-289.00

Any one of those would be considered the green way to go.

Just keep in mind also that the more powerful the engine on the mower the quicker you can get done which in itself is a green thing because of running the engine less.
