Lawn Mower Cord

How do I rewind lawn mower rip cord?

Okay, never had to replace a rip cord before today. Got everything apart, prepared new cord but not sure how to rewind it. This is a Honda HRS216. There's a spring under the top cover where the cord is threaded and tied off. On top of the motor there are a bunch of metal fins in a circle. Do I wrap it around the fins first (I'm assuming counterclockwise but not sure on this either) and then thread it through the top and tie it off? Can I tie it off first? Also, there are two fins on the outside on opposite sides of the circle of fins. Do I have to wrap part of it around 1 or both of these??? It seems like it would be so easy!!! Also, why is it you can never find a quick picture of such a thing on a website?

look these over and if it's still too confusing, don't keept struggling with it, take it to a repair shop.

Lawn mower cord in motor housing...?

My father just gave me a lawn-mower.
I took the handles down so that the mower would fit into my trunk.
When I attempted to re-assemble the lawn mower - I noticed that the cord that usually attaches to the side of the mower will not reach, and only leaves the motor housing by about 6 inches.

What am I doing wrong?
I tried holding down the handle that you have to hold down in order start the mower also. It still wouldnt come out.

well when you tilted the mower in your trunk there is a possibility that some oil got between the piston head and the spark plug causing the unit to be hydrolic locked all you need to do is remove the spark plug then try pulling the pull rope a couple of times with out the spark plug in because that will get the oil that might be between the piston and the spark plug to move . if the cord moves freely then put the spark plug back in and make sure the plug is clean before putting it in and then it should start.if you still can not get cord to move then call Lowes Service Advantage for more trouble shooting the phone number is 1-888-77lowes or 1-888-775-6937 and we will be able to trouble shoot further. hope that helps

How do I restring my lawn mower pull cord?

The pull cord broke on my Briggs and Stratton engine. I replaced the cord, but now the cord won't rewind. I had to rewind the spring, and put it all back together. Now when it's not bolted together the cords rewinds, but once it is bolted together the cord does not rewind.

That is because the casing of the motor is pushing against the spring reel. Check for clearance between the two items. You also might not have wound it enough. The spring also might be bad

how do you repair a lawn mower cord?

If the problem is just the cord and it is fraying, pull the cord all the way out until it stops, stick a screw driver into one of the air slots ontop of the pull-start shroud through the cord pulley. cut the not and remove old cord. if your hardware store dosnot cary a replacement cord a clothesline cord that is the same diameter will work! when you tie the new cord into the old hole, make a strong, plane knot. after you tie it use a lighter to seal the not and keep it from coming undone! If the cord ripped, turn the cord pulley in the direcction of most resistence (so the spring pushes it back if you let go) Depending on the age of the lawn mower, it should turn and stop at the end. stick a screw driver through to hold the pulley from moving as stated earlier. during either of these fixes, make sure you dont let the spring fall out! this is very hard to fix normally, and it HURTS if it flies and hits you! Hope This Helps!!

Lawn mower pull cord stuck?

I got a lawn mower from a friend who had bought it brand new and used it maybe 6 times last summer. In order to get it into the car I had to detach the bar handle and lay it ontop of the mower. While doing this the cord wrapped nearly completely inside the housing. When we tried to put the handle back on, the pull cord refused to budge. Any ideas? My husband is going to take a look but I was wondering if anyone experienced had some insight so the mower doesn't end up broken and my husband doesn't lose an arm.

If the spring inside broke, it wouldn't recoil at all....

Its either tangled and jammed inside (have to take the shroud off to fix) or the flywheel brake is on like stated above....

BTW, if you put it in, spark plug down.... you might have hydrolocked it with oil..... try it without the spark plug in and see if it helps the situation! if it does, turn it over quickly to remove whats in there... and check the air filter for oil on it and replace if it is... and change the oil.

Mower Cord Has No Tension

My lawn mower cord retracts, but the rectangular piece that the cord housing sits on turns. It has no tension and just spins. Consequently, the engine won't turn over. I believe the rectangular piece to be the flywheel or it is connected to the flywheel. It is in line with the center of the lawn mower blade, which is at the opposite end of the vertical assembly, with the rope at the top.
