Lawn Mower Key

I lost my riding lawn mower key, where can I get a new one? It's pretty old?

I've lost my riding lawn-mower key and don't know where or how I can get a new key for it. Its well over 10 years old. Please help.

I am not sure what kind it is, but any farm supply, or mower dealer should be able to give you one. I lost mine once, and my mom said she had the key to her mower in her purse, it worked perfectly. Apparently the keys are pretty standard. So see if you can just get your hands on another mower key, there's a good chance it'll work.

Lawn Mower has new solenoid and key switch. I have to jump the solenoid posts to start it what could be wrong?

Like I said, it starts when I touch the two posts of the solenoid together with a screwdriver and the key is 'on'. But I can't get it to crank when the key is turned to 'start'. I just put in a new solenoid and same story, doesn't crank unless I jump the posts. I used a new key switch and again, same story. I'm extremely frustrated, anyone have any help?

I had the same issue a while back. It frusterated the heck out of me, and I'll give you a cobbled up solution, it's simple, quick, and fairly cheap. Like others said above, it's more than likely a bad wire going from your key switch to the solenoid. You could run another wire, if you know which position it is on the key switch. OR, you can go to your auto-parts store, get a 12 volt push-button start switch and some wire. Run a wire from each pole on the start switch to the two poles you jump with your screwdriver, drill a hole in the dash in some convenient location, and voila`, problem redneck-re-engineered! I did this simply because I've got big hands and short patience, and was in no mood to dig in under the dash and find the blankedy-blank bad wire. It's not the proper solution, but it works!
A word of caution- the motor will crank any time the button is pushed-running, key in it or not, etc etc.

what is the best lawn mower with electric start key function?

need reviews on brands, also repairs etc.

Try the Toro model 20074. It is a 3-in-1 mower (baggs, mulches, and side discharges), has electric start, and has the best self propelled system on the market, the Toro Personal Pace. It never goes faster than you. I love mine!

Check out http://www.toro.com to find a dealer near you.

The key for my honda riding lawn mower broke off. How can I get it out?

I tried a needle nose pliers but don't want to ruin anything. Should I take the ignition switch out and try that way?

Take the ignition out, turn it around, and stick a straightened paper clip through the hole in the other end. This will force the broken key out.

Or, unless you are afraid someone will steal it, just leave it as is, and use the key nub or screwdriver to start it. Most everyone I know, leaves the key in the ignition anyway.

I have lost the key to my riding lawn mower and i was wondering hot to hotwire it?

Depends on what kind it is. If you have an "authorized dealer" (Toro, John Deere, Snapper, Ect.) close to home better to go get another key (maybe two). So no one else can ride off in to the sun-set with your mower. The keys aren't too hard or too expensive to get.

Basically, you may distill much of the above down to a simple assertion that says that while open source offers massive advantages in several areas such as distribution, its intrinsic economic disadvantages are likely to compel commercial open source organizations to seek complementary – and likely non-open source – software models to avoid an early plateau in their revenue potential. To the surprise of probably no one, I more or less agree with this assertion – with one important caveat. Sure, there will be plenty of non-commercial open source that is pure. And there will be a wealth of projects that cannot be made less than pure due to the applied licensing. But the trend in the commercial open source supplier space is clear, and in the direction of hybrid models.

We lost the keys to our riding lawn mower – not just one, both of them. While it crossed my mind that hot-wiring the lawn mower should be fairly easy, for the long haul, replacing the key makes more sense. The question becomes, where do you get a replacement lawn mower key? Direct from the manufacturer? If they sell one, sure. Maybe I can buy a lawn mower key from Home Depot where I bought the mower – not according to employees at two different stores I checked. If you can find a lawn mower repair shop in your area, call them and they may have a lawn mower key in stock. The keys are universal across most brands and even extend to snow blowers. My solution turned out to be the Arnold #1K-100 Universal Ignition Key . Problem solved for under $2.00. I’m expecting to find the original key any day now after finding a replacement.
