Lawn Mower Starter Solenoid

I need a wiring diagram for starter solenoid on a Murray 11hp 38 in cut riding lawn mower.?

It has the large red cable from the battery that goes on one of the solenoid post, on the other side it has a large red cable, a small red wire, that I am assuming goes on the opposite post going forward to ignition switch. It also has a yellow wire that goes to the seat safety switch. Does this one go to ground? It has a small black wire that has its own clip and it is obvious where it goes. I need to know where the battery cable goes to start and where to go from there. Any help anyone can give is appreciated! Thanks


OK here we go. the only difference from any other car or tractor is the switch under the seat for safety.

there should be a large wire from the battery and this is a switch so the other side is a large wire to the starter.

the 2 smaller wires are for the key..
one is a small one coming from the key this tels the solenoid to close and start the motor.
this wont work unless you are siting in the seat and connecting the other small wire to ground.

Solenoid problems with lawn mower!!!?

I purchased a Scag ZTR 2 1/2 years ago and have had to change the solenoid twice. The third Solenoid I put on 4 weeks ago is acting up already. After I start the mower, the starter stays engaged. Any suggestions?

lawn mower wont start. sounds like the starter tries to turn but wont. battery is fully charged, solenoid soun?

battery is fully charged, solenoid sounds good. the starter is getting juiced but it almost seems like it just doesnt have the strenght to turn the crank. does this seem right? need a new starter or something else i should try?
the crank doesnt turn so therefore i shouldnt have any spark, its before any combustion happens whatsoever. i test the battery at 12.3 volts, so i just jumped it and it did turn over, but it would only turn one or twice after a few minutes of waiting then it wouldnt turn. just the same thing, it will engage into the fly grooves and then just wont turn. sometimes will make a humming sound which i'm assuming is the starter trying to turn.


you might have a bad connection either on the battery or starter....try to jump start it
*after you did all that did you happen to feel the selinoid to see if it was hot? sounds like your starter might be locked-up

I am building a racing lawn mower and i just got a briggs and straton engine with a starter i hae everything. but the mower wont even kick over. not even a click. i dont know what to do... So i have decided to start buying new parts like starters, solenoid, battery etc. i just need parts unless someone knows how to fix it. if you do just please post it thank you.

Craftman lawn mower won't start, change solenoid?

tryed jumping hot wire to starter still not working, checked voltage on battery was 11v sometimes 10 v, tryed voltage going to key switch, when i turn switch I do get voltage, fuse is ok its 3 years old

The battery is bad. It will be 12.5 volts or so fully charged. Have you tried jumping it to a known good battery? It can be tricky jumping lawn tractors due to the location of the battery. Two people make it easier, you don't want to short out the cables on the tractor body.
With the voltage readings you show, I would guess your battery is bad.
