I can't get the flywheeloff my Craftsman lawn tractor. Does anyoine know how to do this?

Craftsman 21hp electric start 42" mower, 6 speed transaxle lawn tractor model number 917.271832 LT1000. I can't stop the flywheel spinning so can't get the bolt off to remove it. A screwdriver doesn't stop it moving.

Try using a pipe wrench on the bottom end (output shaft)of the motor.... or at least engage all of the drives..... such as mower blades, transmission etc..... and make sure the retainer bolt is not left handed threads.... sometimes it takes two people to get it off.... have fun.......

Racing Lawn Mower Build?

I have a 1980's craftsman lt 11-36 mower with a 3-speed transaxle...original motor blew so i put a briggs 12.5 i/c motor on it...yet to get a starter, but it runs great. took off all safty devices and the deck. how could i modify it to go faster w/ brakes(low budget). Also can someone tell me were to maybe find a manual for the frame. Thanks

To make it faster, put a smaller size pully on the rear of the tractor..you'll also need to change the belt to make up for the diff in pully size. Run a hotter gas in the tank...and make sure the engine is tuned good. You are on the right track by removeing any extra weight.I can't think of anything to help you with the breaks except to be sure they are adjusted good.Ck on Ebay for a manual.

Lubrication for a Lawn Tractor Help!?

I have a lawn mower that has a transaxle and was wondering what type of lubrication to use- and if anyone knows where to put it. I don't see any drain plug or anywhere to put it! I looked in the manual and it doesn't say anything about it!

80 or 90 w gear oil. Why do you think it needs lubed? I have never tried that. Just usually pump white lithium into the grease fittings. If there is a plug, it will be that square headed bolt at the bottom of the rear axle, but I guess you know that.

What Tpye of Oil Would i put in a Transaxle?

I took the trans misson off a lawn mower and im going to drain the oil but in the book it doesn't say what type, theres a Collar Clutch and a Key Clutch. Any thoughts of what tpye to use???

i own a repair shop, and i run 85-140 in mine and it does real good its been in it for 3 years and no problems yet with it,its real good and thick, and will stay on the gears real good ,if its an automatic trans-axle,,it may use a transmission type oil on it,,look at it real good when you drain it,,this should give you a real good idea of what it should have in it,,good luck with it,happy new years.

In these two videos Dave and Lynol rebuild a Tecumseh Peerless 5-speed manual transaxle model 930-054A out of a 1996 AYP built Weed Eater. This transaxle is very widely used on lawn tractors in 3, 4, 5, & 6 speed configurations dating back to the early 1980’s. You’ll find these on brands from Murray to Craftsman to Husqvarna, just to name a few. It is also very similar to some transaxles made by Foote and Spicer (Dana). These videos are a general overview on how to take them apart and a look at what’s inside. Don’t let these things intimidate you; there not that complicated. If you are good at tinkering and are mechanically minded, you can probably fix your transaxle too! Here’s a link to a exploded diagram and parts list for this particular transaxle so you can see what exactly is inside: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/retrieveModelAction!retrieveModelDetails.action?modelNumber=930-054A&productCategoryId=1510000&brandId=0796&method:retrieveModelDetails=x
