I can start my lawn mower but it stops running just as fast as I start it what could be wrong?
Dirty / Old gas is usually the cause. I just had this problem the other day. I took my gas tank off mine, cleaned it and I removed the carb. I found the filters were both clogged so it wasn't getting enough fuel. I used my air chuck to clean them. I put fresh gas in the tank, started the mower and shot a good blast of air down the throat of the carb. It's running like a champ now.
Keep the air filter as clean as you can. If it gets too dirty it can cause the fuel to burn rich and that can foul out the spark plug.
I use a no foul spark plug... this helps avoid this problem for the most part but remember it needs air, fuel and spark to run. Those are the basics for any combustion engine.

Does anyone know of a good web site to purchase a good lawn mower machine that you push to mow your lawn? I tried to look it up on the internet and got a lot of John Deers. I'm not looking for a John Deer, just a normal hand pushed either electrical or gas powered used lawnmower!

Instead of trying to find one on the net, look in your phone book for lawnmower repair shops and call them and ask for used mowers. A local shop is also going to fix it if it has problems, someone on the net is not. Its better to deal face to face than thru e-mail.

one should be in front of the other so they can overlap without hitting each other - thus not leaving a strip of uncut grass down the middle.
i have briggs & stratton 4.5hp mower. it was made in 2003 it says on it. its fairly new. it has no accelerator. i think it rrevs higher when u start mowing. but the prboel is that when u start it it starts then runs fine for 5 secs and then almost turns off. then goes to normall and repeats this patter. The fuel filter and the filters are fine. why is it doing this?>>???
I would check the air filter. It sounds like it runs OK when cold, and it is tuned to run "lean" cold, but when it warms, it does not get enough air. Check the air filter, and I'll bet it is dirty. If not, go with the guy suggesting the bad gas. You don't have a bad plug. Generally, air filter, plug, and gas are 90% of mower problems.
Problem lately after I let the lawn mower sit a few days it will not start. I pull the start chain over and over and it will not start.
Also after I mess with it, it will starts up but a lot of smoke come out of the exchaust. Not sure why or what needs to be done to fix this.
I have a toro lawn mower if that helps.

Each year in spring I have made it a habit to prepare all of my garden tools for the spring and summer seasons. This includes the lawn mower, chainsaw, weed wacker and hedge clippers. Since we have almost three quarters of an acre, which is fully landscaped, there is quite a bit of maintenance that I try to do on my own.
