I have misplaced my set of keys for my MTD lawn mower and desperately need to start it. I don't think it has a pull-start option. Can I buy replacement keys? Are all ignition keys the same for MTD lawn mowers? If not, what other options do I have?

Check your owners manual if you have one it should have the replacment part numbers you need.Or try your local power equipment dealer and see if they can help.

I've checked all the safety switches and they seem fine. The mower will run fine as long as I don't engage the blades. HELP! :)

Just a thought

Do you have a reverse button that allows you to keep mower running while in shifting in reverse?
If so check to see if that is stuck

Proper pre -start proceedure followed. When ignition is in start position-solenoid makes clicking noise , but no start. Starter is brand new as well as battery and battery shows full charge. Cleaned terminal to new starter and fuse is not blown. Frustrated..Please advise...To weak from surgery to push mow... Thanks ...Charles

4 things to check.. fuel, air, spark, compression
gas in tank? is there an On/Off/Reserve tap in the gasline? throttle open? engine flooded? remove sparkplug.. if it's wet, it's flooded, check to see if there's a spark.. check if air filter is clogged so there's no air entering the carburetor.. may need cleaning or a new one.. the toughest thing may be to check the compression via the sparkplug hole.. if the compression is low, could be several things.. bent valve stem, carbon buildup, burnt valves may need grinding to improve seal or replacement, could be stuck valve or broken spring, camshaft chain broken or out of adjustment, could be ignition timing out of whack if there is spark but not @ the right time? Old fuel could clog the carb or sparkplug.. motor oil in the crankcase? (engine seized or turns over?).. I assume you turn the key on to operate the starter? Sparkplug wire(s) on the plug(s)? Sparkplug porcelain cracked or shortening out? Any moisture/condensation on electrical wiring or near the sparkplug? My suggestions are just to narrow down the problem.. just eliminate each possible problem til you find the cause.. Good luck :)

HELP !!....On the selonoid connecting hot wires...The hot wire from the battrery is connected to which side of the two selonoid terminals. (Sitting on the mower looking down)..the left side wire runs to the battery and the right to the fuse and other. Also the left side selonoid frame mount bolt has the gound wire connected. Also what size fuse is for the Mower..I have a 20 amp in now?

The starter solenoid should have a few wires on it . One side has the main hot lead from the battery ( + positive) and the lead with the fuse to the ignition switch( ign switch needs constant hot to crank the motor) - the lead from the other side of the starter solenoid goes to the starter motor - the ground can go to the mounting bolt or sometimes a lil tab sticks off the solenoid thet it can hook to. Its possible the fuse pops from one of the constant hot wires grounding out somewhere on the chassis.

if its a push mower about 1 qt
if there is no dip stick then fill the oil hole till it gets 1/2 way up the fill hole
