Mulching Lawn Mower

Answers

I cant decide between a mulching lawn mower and a traditional bucket collection mower?

I live in the UK and have a big lawn i need a new lawn mower. Is a mulching lawn mower worth the extra cost, will grass be carried into the house more easily and what width of mower cut is best. The lawn is about 250m2.

Why not buy a 3'n'1? I bought a McCulloch last year that mulches, collects and lets fly. I wouldn't go for the mulcher as it needs to be used every few days or the clippings could form clumps which eventually kill patches of grass. If you get a bad Summer, it could destroy your lawn.
Go for the box mower. During the height of the Summer you can let the clippings fly (1 in every 4 cuttings) and this will help feed the lawn and provide a light mulch which will retain moisture (less watering) without making the lawn look bad.

the mulching lawnmower

i wanted to see just how far you can push a mulching lawnmower. just what can it mulch and how far can you push it before its destroyed.

I want to mulch my lawn. Do I need a new lawn mower or can I just put a mulching blade on my old one?

The lawn mower I already have is a plain push mower. It doesn't have a side chute. So, if I keep the bagging chute closed and install a mulching blade, will it function as a mulching mower?

Or is there a lot more to mulching than simply having a mulching blade and keeping the chute closed?

Thanks!

Your bog standard push mower is no good for mulching. You'll have to get a new one with a mulch chute.

how does a mulching lawn mower work?

as opposed to a side discharge

side discharge cuts the grass once and spits it out. Mulching has no discharge so clippings are repeatedly chopped up and eventually fall out the bottom of the mower. This way the clippings are uniformly dropped on the lawn, rather than in lines along where you pushed the mower.

Is it okay to mulch leaves with a mulching lawn mower instead of raking them?

Yep, that's what we do.

I have a Black & Decker 19" Mulching Lawn Mower (MM875). I have been shopping for a replacement blade.?

Most 19" B & D blades indicate that they are compatible with MM850. Is this the correct blade for my mower, also? Thanks!
