Best way to see whats happened - pull the deck off. Heres a link to your lawntractors parts list :http://jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm - type in your model number under 'model' section - it appears you have a 2002 model.
Your 'mandrel' or deck spindle assy part number is :1001200MA - if you need a blade :095100E701MA - if you need a pulley -494199MA. Most lawntractors sometimes have a small block that bolts to the end of the spindle assy - apparantly yours dosent ( its designed that way). To replace the mandrel , its probably in the $60 range , pulleys( if needed) are like $15 - if a new blade is needed ( buy a set- not just one) theyre usually around $10-20 ( depending if its a mulching blade - theyre more - i bot two for my Murray and they were like $18 a piece). Any tractor parts place should be able to get those parts - ive also seen them at Tractor supply.
While the deck is off, it probably would be a good time to clean it, check the other mandrel housings/berings- replace if needed.

How to fix a riding lawn mower brake? Murray?

I have a 16.5 hp Murray riding lawnmower. Brakes dont work to good. How do i adjust or replace them. Part names or numbers that I should replace? thank you

If your mower is not really old, they probably just need to be adjusted. I believe you need a 1/2" or 9/16" wrench or socket to tighten them. The adjusting nut is just under the rear of the tractor near the right rear tire. You need to jack the back of the tractor up slightly. It can be done without jacking, but it is harder to find the nut. You will see the brake rod coming from the front of the tractor. The brake itself is held on by two bolts, between those two bolts, is the adjusting nut. Tighten the nut slightly. Apply the brakes to see if they are working, if not, tighten a little more. Do not over tighten, or you will not be able to push the tractor when it is in neutral and the brake is off.

Make a 14hp Murray lawn mower faster.?

I recently became obsessed with lawn mower racing, i have an old 14hp Murray riding mower and i want to make it into a little project by making it faster, i'm going to take the blade deck off and all that etc. to make it a bit of a racing mower, not really fast because i dont want to spend much at all, i saw some videos on youtube that people just took the blade deck off and added smaller sprockets etc. but other than that u can keep it stock and taking off some parts to make it go faster, does anyone have any advice on whats a good idea to do so or have any instructional videos on how to do that? thank you so much :P

You are in luck. I was just looking at lawn mower racing web sites a couple days ago and book marked them. They have performance tips, chassis tips etc. Here are some links, actually one link which has a whole list of links. Have fun !!

i need starter for my riding lawn mower near 75149?

cheap replacement parts for murray

You need the make and model number off the engine. With that, go to outdoordistributors.com and look up the starter. It won't be cheap. A briggs and stratton starter runs about $100.00. Unless the starter is broken or burned up you can get them rebuilt. You can put brushes in them yourself. It would be a lot cheaper.
