Depending on what model mower you have will depend on what is the best recommended oil and fuel to use. Check out http://www.thelawnmower.info/ and go to your brand of mower. You will find manuals for each of the model brands that will clearly show you what is recommended. Hope this helps

The noise, smell, fumes, oil and gas you have to deal with. Get a reel mower for about 200 dollars and never buy a drop of petrol again.

Using 10-40W oil will not harm your engine. On a molecular level 10-30W oil is the correct manufacturers recommendation. If you stack (5) marbles vertically, one against the other and think about the oil moving between a shaft and bearing rotating the five marbles. This is how 30W oil works in a bearing and rotating shaft. When you change your oil next time I also recommend that you use 10-30W oil.
Its a champion mower with a brigs and stratton engine. It was starting up the other day no problem. I sort of banged it off a level of decking tho and that may have knocked somthing. Its got plenty of petrol and the air filter is ok, spark plug seems ok too. Any ideas?
