A Prost AP03 would make a good, cheap F1 lawn mower.
I was cutting my backyard and my lawn mower made this weird sound and cut off. When i tried to restart it, the engine seems to struggle to turn on before failing. It sounds like something is lose in the engine.
Now about 50-60 yards earlier, i ran over a tennis ball that my dog plays with. I thought i had cleared my backyard of toys and debris, but apparently the tennis ball was hidden in the high grass.
Is there anything that can be done to fix it?
With out being mechanical inclined, there's too much to teach you on an engine In a forum, added to this-you could have about ten things I can think of wrong, unplug the plug wire, roll the engine over by hand, does It feel like the rods coming off the crank, or pull the flywheel and see If you sheered the timing key, Is the blade falling off, does It have oil? hhhhmmmm
an engine needs 4 things to run, air, fuel, compression and spark, get a buddy over and give him free beer and food while he repairs It
I have an old mower that keeps fouling it's plug. I have stripped the motor down, but do not understand how all the oil is reaching the plug. There looks to be a small groove in the piston head, but looks machined. Possible, that i need new rings? Also i do not see where gaskets come into play between piston and plug. So it would almost have to be the rings. I think but do not know.
Oil to fuel mixture, or air to fuel mixture is wrong perhaps. You likely know more about this mower, though, as you have taken it apart and sound like you understand its inner workings. Have you replaced the spark plug? Any residue might be a seed for further carbon growth, and the spark might not be as clean, leading to carbon growth. It is possible that the spacing of the plug gap is a factor.
My husband believes that too much oil in the mixture could prevent the fuel from completely burning, which leads to carbon residue. That makes the most sense to him. Not all 2 stroke engines have the same oil to fuel mixture requirements.

I've been working on a lawn mower now for the past two days. At first the fuel outlet on the tank was plugged and I unplugged that and it still wouldn't run. After this I checked the spark plug and made sure it was working and it was. So I took the carb off (which was extremely dirty) and soaked it in cleaner and blasted out all of the holes. After cleaning it, I needed a new bowl and a new needle so I replaced both of these and then made sure there was no play in the governor and tried to start it but still no go. I sprayed some starter fluid into the intake and when I do that it will start and the governor will start to throttle it up but then it dies like its not getting any fuel (nor sure if its running only off he starter fluid or if there's gas there to). My question is if anyone knows anything that I am missing or anything else I could do before I think about getting a new carb. If I can give any more detail please let me know.
Also as a side note I thought it was kind of odd that the governor closes the throttle all the way instead of opening when the engine is off, but maybe that's the way this one works.
Sounds like a lack of gas problem, did you mess with the adj. screw when you cleaned the carb? Did you clean out the gas tank, are you SURE you have fuel flow to the carb? Are you SURE the governor linkage is installed right? With the engine running, the intake vacuum should suck open the throttle plate, while the gov. counter acts that action. You say it was really dirty, any chance some gunk got back the jet or fuel orifice when you put it back together, it only takes a minute speck to restrict fuel flow enough to cause erratic idling.
