How Is it possible to burn out all the oil in a lawn mower in 6 months?

Bought a Poulan lawn mower in April filled it with oil and started mowing,and burnt out the engine, it has a 1 year warranty. Repair shop said they won`t replace or repair under warranty, plus we owe them for the service.


You should check the oil level every time you start the mower.

The repair shop isn't trying to "screw" you. The oil may not have burned out, but if you had a leak, it could have leaked out.

Running a lawnmower without oil will destroy it in about 3-5 minutes, less if it's really hot.

Chalk it up as a life lesson, and read and study the owner's manual more carefully the next time.

Here#39;s the broken Poulan we picked up on craigslist this past week.

my poulan pro riding lawn mower and when i put it in gear my engine runs fine but i get a jerking motion?

the engine runs ok but as i go along it like it slips in and out of gear


Does it have a hydrostatic transmission or a belt?
If it has a belt it could need a new one or maybe it's too loose.
If it has the fancy transmission it could need more oil or the filter is clogged up.

If you have a stick shift that move by it self into neutral and you have to hold the stick in the gear so it will not shift out. Your gear box could have worn gears. Not a good thing.

how good are poulan lawn mowers?



They are made by ayp (owned by electrolux, which owns husqvarna) ayp makes husq, poulan/weedeater and sears mowers.... many other brands as well. These mowers are good quality for the money.

Depends on condition. Low hours, new belts and blades - might bring $500 if it looks new and has been maintained. The key in selling used equipment is that it is "ready to mow."

I have owned a Poulan Twist N’ Edge for over 5 years and it is quite an ingenious product. The Twist N’ Edge is so useful and is a big time saver. The integrated metal guide by the cutting head helps you simply rest the trimmer on the edge of a curb or sidewalk for a perfect edging job. Push the button, flip the edger head with a movement of your wrists (imagine putting a hula-hoop on the end of a broomstick and making it loop round and round - that movement) and you are in trimmer mode. A truly great product. I have never had mine serviced and have never replaced anything and it still runs like a charm. A little tough to get started, especially after sitting all winter, but once you get it started, if you need to turn it off to go inside for a drink, when you come back out it will start right up with one or two pulls max. The no-tap centrifugal force-powered line head is very cool and always doles out the perfect length of line. There is a small learning curve on the line head in regards to putting the metal ring on correctly (notch-up) and how tight you put it on (too loose and your line comes out too fast; too tight and not at all). Buy this trimmer!

Well, the one I bought must have been handled pretty roughly as one of the wheel brackets was broken when I got the mower out of the box. I called the customer service (mower, not Amazon) and they were worthless. Bought a new bracket and put it on (about $10, inc. $7 to ship — still easier than taking mower to authorized dealer). The mower smoked badly on startup, so we’ll just have to see what the future holds. Jury definitely out right now.
