Quiet Lawn Mower

Why hasn't someone invented a quiet lawn mower?

I have a Black n Decker cordless rechargeable Mower I bought at Lowe's. It was expensive, but it is less noisy than a gas mower and I do not have to buy gas.

Any way to make a lawn mower quieter?

I have a gas powered push lawn mower, and it is a bit noisy. It is a 4 horsepower Briggs & Stratton. Is there any way I could lower the noise that is produces when running? Thanks in advance!

You should be able to find an after market muffler at a small engine repair shop. I got one adapted from a Honda to fit my 5HP Briggs, big difference. The blade can also be noisy, especially the mulching blades. If you don't need the mulching effect, get the straightest blade with the the least amount of lift. Your repair shop should know what I'm talking about. RScott

How does a manual lawn mower work on hills?

I'm thinking about buying a manual or reel mower for this summer. My yard's not that big for starters and I like the idea of a quiet mower. I do have a small hill in the backyard though and I'm wondering how this will work on that hill? WIll it give a smooth, even cut?

As long as you can walk up and down the hill and control the lawnmower then it will work just beautifully on the hill. Just imagine what a wonderful contribution you're making to the environment by not using electricity or fossil fuels to power a piece of equipment.

Thank You

I bought my electric lawn mower a year ago and it was so quiet. Now the engine is really loud. Why?

Black and decker, so it is a good machine.

twpo main reasons for an electric to get loud, 1) you havent cleaned off the caked on grass clippings from the bottom of the machine
2) the bearings are going

then there is option 3) the nut that holds the blade on may be loose.

( laughs at the guy who says bad gas or oil change in an electric machine)

Electrically, and acoustically the world is a very noisy place. Whether you record musical instruments, the human voice or other forms of art and communication, noise can be a real problem. The quality of portable recorders and the availability of very high quality microphones only highlight the problem.

Recently, a listener asked me about quiet PC’s. I started thinking about not just PC’s, but different models of Macs as well. Add in ambient factors such as sound absorption, reflections, studio size (even the neighbors lawn mower), microphone type and a myriad of others. They all add to the bottom line of noise problems and the dreaded process of editing out “distractions”.

Advantages Of Electric Lawn Mowers - EcoHuddle Community

Gas-powered mowers send over 1,800 times the hydrocarbons into the atmosphere when compared to the environmentally-sound choice of battery-powered mowers.

Well over 5 million of these machines are still sold in the U.S.  every year, but these machines have barely evolved in over half a century, and in today’s world that’s really behind the times.  According to the EPA, gas mowers are reponsible for nearly 5% of our nation’s total air pollution. Over 800 million gallons of gasoline are used mowing our nation’s lawns every year. And if you operate one for more than 15 minutes, experts advise you to wear hearing protection.
