Boyfriend needs a new lawn mower seems to be a good price but we're curious if its good or not...

we got this one from sears about a month ago but without the bag-we have cut our lawn probably about 5 or so times with it and it seems to work great-easy to assemble and no problems as of yet!

Use a HD-30 above 40 degrees F.... thats high detergent straight 30 weight. Of any NAME BRAND!! don't be cheap...., if you still have the oil bottle that came with the engine, fill it up with the oil you use. The engine holds a maximum of 20 ounces of oil, not a whole quart.

Use 5w-30 or 10w-30 conventional below 40. Using a conventional multi weight WILL result in added consumption for most engines... Some may use a 15w-40 for added protection, not needed though.

Or use a 5w-30 or 10w-30 synthetic all year round....


DO NOT USE ND-30....( Non detegent oil ).....

I'd like to just mow over them and collect it in the bag. Will this harm my mower in any way?

yes its a great idea, I have done it many times myself. One small point set the cutter blades on high and I assume your lawn mower is a rotory mower as it will rely on the suction from the blade to lift the leaves into the bag.It would not work with a cylinder mower so well.

It sounds like its turning off and back on constantly and I know i have enough oil and fuel in there so what could be the problem???

I have to agree with 'ouch' above: Poulan products have a tarnished history, and once fell under the Electrolux umbrella of corporate brands, but not sure who makes them now. Your problem sounds related to the carburetor, but not sure. Since its still new, its under warranty. Return it and make them fix it or replace it. If you're willing to take chance, stick with what you have. But if you can part with a few more dollars, take the other poster's advice and trade up to a more reliable brand.

When I purchased the mower a few months ago, WalMart had 2 different ones. They had none in stock and only floor models. I purchased the one that had all of its literature, which in turn was teh exact mower, jut missing the bag. I can't seem to find one anywhere. I tried ebay, briggs and stratton website, and and general searched for it. Please help!
Sorry, I was incorrect in the above message. It is a side, not rear discharge.

Go back to WalMart and demand a refund or the bagger, I took one back because of a missing part. Take your receipt with you. I got the refund and went elsewhere to purchase my mower.
