Someone put gas in my riding lawn mower where oil goes. I have taken the oil filter off but the oil will not drain out. It is a murray ohv/42 and not sure how old it is. Is there another way to drain the oil and should that fix it or is it broke for good?
After you find the oil drain plug and drain the gas out of the system, make sure you kick the person's butt who did such a dumb thing.

I have a 18 HP Briggs and Stratton in it. The manual says 3.5 pints (56oz) with filter. When I do that, it is way over filled even after running some. Anyone have the same experience ? 42 ozs works best for me.
There are a couple of different sizes of Briggs oil filters. Maybe your filter is a smaller size and therefore doesn't hold as much oil. Just a guess. I always judge by the dip stick and not by how many ounces of oil I put in.
can u put 40 weight oil in a riding lawn mower,,i cant rem what i put in it last? maybe 30 weight,,,would it be alright to add 40 weight to 30?
You are ok with sae 40 but sae 30 is recommended by most manufactures

It should be OK. It may foul the plug with some time of running and put a little smoke out as it runs. But it should be fine.
Just run it out. What ever you do don't wash it out with water. Water will be even more of a problem.
Run the mower until it is empty, then fill it back up.
Use gas stabilizer in the fall so your mower will start next year.
Last week, just as I was finishing up my yard, the engine began to pop, but nothing seemed to change performance wise. I put the mower up in the garage and this week when I went out to the garage, I found a large puddle of oil underneath it. It will start but oil is coming out rapidly. The mower is not that old and I keep the oil changed, this seems odd that it would just let go.

Let’s back up here a minute. Someone put gas in your oil? Who would do that? I have had mowers for years and no has even put oil in them but me much less gas in the oil. Are you sure that the float in the carburator didn’t stick and let gas run into the engine? I would suspect that before I would believe that someone is walking around out there putting gas in peoples oil.

DO NOT RUN IT!!!, What has happened is either the fuel float (its in that bowl on the bottom of the carb) has formed a hole in it, and sunk letting gas free flow through the breather and combustion chamber, or it has more then likely hung up…, tap the bowl a few times, that may break it loose…, OR the inlet needle/seat are leaking..
When its fixed, drain and refill with fresh oil, make sure the combustion chamber is free of gas as well (take the plug out and turn it over a few times)… I’d also invest in a cheap in-line fuel shutoff valve…
