Have a Ryobi lawn mower. Hit a rock and knocked the timing off. How can I fix it?

Ryobi mower 6.5 engine. Model number 11A-545D034. Took it to the shop twice before for the same thing at $50 a pop. I was told that when the blades hit a rock, the timing is knoced off so the blade does not get damaged more. Now the mower won't start until the timing is set. Would rather know how to fix it myself instead of putting more money into it.


Ditto with "daffyduct2006" . It sounds like you sheared the magneto key. It is an aluminum woodruff key that keeps the magneto in time with the crankshaft. It can shear partially or all the way when an object is hit.

Sometimes it will shear only a small amount and make the mower hard to start.

If you feel mechanically inclined you can get a replacement key from your mower dealer or mower shop. Wal-Mart even has them for some mowers. But if you don't feel like the wrench turning type you can have your mower shop do it and it shouldn't cost much or take very long.

ryobi lawn mower without directions, gas and oil mix? or just gas?

I just moved into a rental house and it came with a ryobi push lawnmower. I have a ryobi edger that takes a mixture of both oil and gas. I was wondering if the lawn mower did the same. I just dont want to mess it up and have to buy my landlord a new one. Thanks!


There should be a separate compartment for the gas and the oil. The oil usually goes in a container on top of the engine, The gas on the side.

Where can I buy a battery for a Ryobi electric lawn mower for under $115 plus s&h?

It's a rechargeable mower, model BMM2400. The battery must be a 24-volt lead acid type.


Try Wal-Mart , Sam's, Sears they should have one for about $29.00 to about $30.00 good luck

lawn mower problems with the cord?

i both this lawn mower a year a go and now when i tray to start it
the Cord pulles my arm fowered just before it starts. It almost
dislocated my arm out of place when it snaps the cord fowerd inside the lawn mower. Dose an one know way it dose this.

There is nothing wrong with your mower
whats happening is the piston is at the top of the
cylinder this is where the compression is that's why
its hard to pull this is good thing if your motor was
worn out it will pull easy but that's not the case here

this is the best way to start your mower
when you go to pull the cord give it 2 or 3 short
pulls this will release the compression in the motor
then give it one good pull and your off and running
