If you have only a small yard, you can purchase a basic electric mower that requires a cord for about $150 if you shop around. You can also get a basic gas mower in the price range of $150 to $180. For a small yard, you need only a basic model of either. Either electric or gas models will do just as good a job of cutting the grass.
Craftsman Electric Lawn Mowers are quieter, more energy-efficient and less expensive alternatives to gas-powered mowers with providing ample power ...
I am thinking of getting a cordless elecrtic lawn mower for my husband to use (I don't do yard work). We have a very small yard, with maybe 400 sq. ft. of grass to mow. Right now, we have an old gas-powered mower that's been handed down several times. It's a pain to start up, keep gassed up, and use, so my husband mows less often than he should.
Is an electric lawn mower worth the price, especially considering we only have a small yard? We do have an outlet outside where it can be recharged - how often will it have to be charged, and for how long? Will it really be easier to use and more convenient than a gas-powered mower?
not that big at all so why even bother with electricity? why not go out and get one of the old fashioned reel mowers? as long as it is kept up every 5 or 6 days , keep the blade sharp, they are great and easy to use and cost a hell of allot less !
For just a small lawn, do you think a reel mower is ok, or will they get rusted up and hard to push after a while.
What do you think, reel, electric, gas.
I need to buy one, but it's just a small lawn about 20 feet by 15 feet.
It depends on how big your lawn is, and what type of grass you have.
My old lawn was about the same size as yours and I used a reel mower very effectively on it. But with some "cool season" grasses (bluegrass, rye, fescue), you really have to keep up with it. Taller grass can be dificult to cut w/ a reel mower.
If you have a Southern grass, like Bermuda, Zoysia, St. Augustine - they are great mowers. You'd definitely be better off using a reel mower on one of these.
You can pick up a new reel mower for about $60, so it's not a big investment. A gas or electric will run you considerably more.
I have a small yard and I need method to cut the grass. Unfortunately, storage is an issue so I cannot get a gas/electric push mower. I thought of getting a reel mower, but there is some tall grass and some people have told me it will not cut that well. I can only think of using a string/line trimmer to cut the grass, but am afraid that it will not come out level. Does anyone have experience doing this? Or is it even done?
I sell mowers and trimmers, I had a customer buy a trimmer to mow his yard. His deal is that he lives on a lake shore lot, and only has very small strips of grass, and they are too small for a mower. You can get a trimmer to mow even, it takes practice and a steady arm.
Are there any strong powered electric or do I need to go gas?
I have a small yard but current electric won't take it.
Any Gas Mower will work fine. Just keep it maintained and have the blade sharpened twice a season and you will be fine.
A solar electric lawnmower conversion for just $1500 — Autoblog Green
This isn't the first time you've seen a solar lawnmower on AutoblogGreen. In fact, we've seen quite a few different green yard and farming implements in our time -- even solar powered tractors . The ever-increasing price of gas, though, may be causing the electric mowing option to loom a bit larger in people's minds these days. So, here's another man's attempt to save a little gas, and therefore the related emissions, from his own neighborhood when he goes out to mow his lawn. Starting with a standard push-mower powered by a typical small gasoline engine, three steps will be required to get your very own home-built solar recharged electric mower. If you are hoping that this little mod is going...

A dull lawn mower blade can cause the tips of your grass to brown. Do not use a serrated blade to sharpen lawn tools. Store electric tools in a dry place.
