I recently bought a Lawn Man mower with a Tecumseh 6.5 HP OV195EP engine in it. Of course I misplaced the owner's manual and now it's time to winterize it and I don't know what to do. Can somebody look up how to do it on their website and let me know? I tried with both Firefox and IE, but my internet connection is so slow that Acrobat froze it right up. Man I love PDFs........

The best way to winterize is to fill the gas tak putting a stabilizer such as stab-il. The tank should NOT be drained because condensation can build up on the walls of the gas tank. Check your oil if its not to black you may as well wait untill spring to change your oil. If it is very black change it, used oil is slightly acidic. To protect your pistons & cylinder you can remove your spark plug & spray a small amount of "fogging oil" into the spark plug hole. With the spark plug replaced, remove the spark plug wire and turn the engine over (pull the cord) this will coat the oil evenly. Replace the spark plug wire and your done.

Hello! I am looking at 2 lawn mowers at Home Depot and can't decide which one to get. Besides the cutting width being different, one has a Briggs and Stratton engine and the other has a Tecumseh engine. The HP is about the same, so my only concern is the engine brand. My current lawn mower is 14 years old and it has a B&S engine in it. Never had too many problems with it. Which one is better? Is Tecumseh a good engine nowadays? The mower with the Tecumseh engine is $100 less, so if it's reliable, then I might go with it. Thanks!

I have never had a B&S that failed to start after sitting all winter with gas in it. However if you do that with a Tecumseh you'll need a carb rebuild before it will start. I've had both in lawn and garden equipment and feel that the Briggs is inherently more reliable. I'll pay the etra expense to get the Briggs engine anyday.

sounds like your carb is dirty...causing the float bowl to stick open. Take the silver colored bowl( usually by the primer ball) off and take a can of carb cleaner with the tube on it. Stick it up the center of the hole (in the middle of the float) and squirt it real good! This should clear out the jet and let the float open and close properly.

i have the tecumseh 6hp ohv ohh60 powersport engine

You would need to add an inductive tachometer on the spark plug wire - it "reads" the spark signal with a wire that wraps around the plug wire - no problem to install. I linked to one that does both the tach and the hours the engine is used - great for keeping track of the maintenance. Its only about 40 bucks.

It's a push mower with a Tecumseh engine and the crank shaft seems to be OK. It's the part of the shaft that extends from the bottom of the engine (the blade is bolted to it) that's bent. I've been able to straighten it quite a bit, but I've heard that it might be dangerous to use the mower once that shaft has been bent. Safe or unsafe? Any advice appreciated!

Not dangerous...... if gotten back totally straight.... its ok.
I second the get a briggs notion..... hit almost anything with em and never bent one yet. Plus tecumsehs are bad for connecting rods throwing.
