I had an MTD mower with a Tecumseh engine. I think it was around 2 1/2 horsepower. I used straight 30 weight motor oil. This was not for a 2 cycle engine.

my new freebee lawn mower, what do you think?

I recently bought a Lawn Man mower with a Tecumseh 6.5 HP OV195EP engine in it. Of course I misplaced the owner's manual and now it's time to winterize it and I don't know what to do. Can somebody look up how to do it on their website and let me know? I tried with both Firefox and IE, but my internet connection is so slow that Acrobat froze it right up. Man I love PDFs........

The best way to winterize is to fill the gas tak putting a stabilizer such as stab-il. The tank should NOT be drained because condensation can build up on the walls of the gas tank. Check your oil if its not to black you may as well wait untill spring to change your oil. If it is very black change it, used oil is slightly acidic. To protect your pistons & cylinder you can remove your spark plug & spray a small amount of "fogging oil" into the spark plug hole. With the spark plug replaced, remove the spark plug wire and turn the engine over (pull the cord) this will coat the oil evenly. Replace the spark plug wire and your done.

We replaced the flywheel key yesterday and we bumped the magneto, and i have looked everywhere and i have not found out the space that should be between the magneto and the flywheel. Could anyone tell me the space or give me a link, thanks

.003 to .008 inches. The gap is not critical so long as there is a gap. Use a match book cover as a gauge. Just make sure when you turn the flywheel there is a gap all the way around.

I just bought a broken scotts lawn mower and i replaced the primer because there was a hole in it. It didnt have a air filter so i bought one. i cleaned out the carborator because it was messed up. it starts but runs for 2 seconds unless you keep pressing the primer then it goes for a while but it doesnt want to start. I need help. let me know whats wrong.

You need to clean and rebuild the carburetor. It needs to be taken apart and soaked in a good cleaner and put together with a rebuild kit. You can get the kit at most any small engine shop for about $15.00.

Hello! I am looking at 2 lawn mowers at Home Depot and can't decide which one to get. Besides the cutting width being different, one has a Briggs and Stratton engine and the other has a Tecumseh engine. The HP is about the same, so my only concern is the engine brand. My current lawn mower is 14 years old and it has a B&S engine in it. Never had too many problems with it. Which one is better? Is Tecumseh a good engine nowadays? The mower with the Tecumseh engine is $100 less, so if it's reliable, then I might go with it. Thanks!

I have never had a B&S that failed to start after sitting all winter with gas in it. However if you do that with a Tecumseh you'll need a carb rebuild before it will start. I've had both in lawn and garden equipment and feel that the Briggs is inherently more reliable. I'll pay the etra expense to get the Briggs engine anyday.
