Toro or John Deere walk-behind Lawn mower?
My 6.75 HP Lawn Mower - 2

Hi All,
I am looking in to buy a new lawn mower but need your help to decide which one I want. I live in a townhouse and my front and backyard are not that big, so a walk behind, non-self propelled, lawn mower is perfect for me. I am looking in to Torro Personal Pace Electric Start Walk Power Mower and a John Deere Model BG20493. (Self Propelled). They both have 6.75 hp, 190 cc B & G motor, and both are electric start.

Cons of Toro:
22" cutting width
Price. (30 dollar cheaper than JD)
Warranty (3 years vs 2 years JD)

Cons of JD:
Self Propelled.
JD Name.
Green Color. :)

Over all I am leaning towards Toro but I have no idea how good Toro Mowers are. Should I choose from these or should I go to Sears and buy a Craftsmen?? I will greatly appreciate your help on this one. Thank you all in advance.

Here are the links to the JD and Toro mowers.

Whichever you buy, do not get it from Home Depot or Lowe's. If you need service or parts, they will send you to a dealer, so skip the middle man.

You mentioned you didn't want a self-propelled, but yet you mentioned 2 self-propelled units. If you try the Personal Pace from Toro, you are going to love it. It requires a little pushing from you, but it does most of the work and will never "drag you along". I love my mower with Personal Pace.

One thing about the warranty for Toro is that it is a 3 year "Guaranteed to Start" warranty. If it doesn't start in the first of second try, Toro will fix it for free.

It was mentioned about a Sears mower, but you run into a problem when it comes to getting it serviced. You have to work on their schedule, and it could be weeks if you have to send it in.

As far as the high wheeled mower, do this simple test. Get a high wheel mower and a regular mower side by side. From behind push down to lift the front wheels like you would be turning the mower around. Compare the difference in the amount required to lift the wheels off the ground.

Ultimately the decision is yours, I wish you luck with this upcoming mowing season.

Which company is better Toro, Black & Decker, Lawn Boy?
My 6.75 HP Lawn Mower - 1

This is for gas and electric mowers. Is there someone else even better for the price?

My experience with Lawn Boy was from 25 years ago. My dad bought a walk behind gas mower. It was a piece of junk. The whole housing was plastic. The primer system didn't work properly, the pull cord continually broke. They may have made them better since then, but since I will never buy one to find out, I don't know.

Toro Snowblower Repair Tips Requested - Model:38175 ?

Hello,
I have a snowblower that has sat for over 5 years with less than 50 hours on it. It will not start now.
It's a Model:38175 Toro CCR Powerlite-e - Electric Start 1000*** series year 1991

I put fresh gas/oil mixure per manual. (Tank was emptied prior to storage.) I put in a new spark plug matching the old. Still it would not start.

I used carb cleaner and sprayed it in the carb via breather. The engine would run until what I would say. "The cleaner burnt off and the engine ran out of gas". So, i'd say. Because it started briefly it is getting a spark and capable of running. But, it's just not getting gas.

I went to prime it and the primer button shattered under my thumb from dry rot. I replaced the primer with the primer from my old toro snowblower.

Are there any other rubber or neopreme gaskets in this model that could have dry rotted and causing it not to start? (I know when I bought a used lawn mower this summer. The guy took the carb off and replaced a rubber gasket that acted like a fuel pump some how).

Does this model have something like that could have rotted?

Well, tomorrow I am checking hoses from tank and primer to carb.

Anyone else have any suggestions on what to look for ,replace or try as well?

a detailed part drawing can be found here if you type in the model number.

I am a tinkerer. I am not an expert. SO, please please please use part numbers with layman terms on things i should try or replace.

Thanks all in ADVANCE
Thanks Everyone who ANSWERED.

I found a local High School Vocational School with a small engine shop 3 blocks away from me.

Costed me $25.00 in parts. Labor was free due to the students doing the repair. (Check your local school though)

I dropped it off at 9:00 am and by 11 am sameday. I had it back in working order.

Probelm was with the float, needle and something else being corroded. They did say it was not gel build up. but, like rust corrosion from sitting so many years.

Thanks again, to all who provided thier input.

AND, I MUST ADD. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS. THEY WERE THERE FOR ME.

I would agree with PD, something is probably clogged up. When gas sits for a while it goes to a gel like state and gums up. Also I would check the diaphragm out it could have some tiny pin hole or tear causing it not to pull gas from the tank. My nephews go cart had the same problem, And a 22 cent part fixed it.....LOL...Hope this helps out.

Toro Personal Pace mower won#39;t restart? | Walk Behind Lawn Mowers Blog

I have a Toro Personal Pace electric begin mower that starts excellent the initial time, If I stop as well as try to restart afterwards I can usually lift the primer connective tissue about 4-6 inches as well as afterwards it thatch up as well as won’t move. (I’ve never used the electric begin for a little reason).

Not certain how to fix? I let it cold down 2 weeks ago as well as forced it open, though this week it will not budge.

Thanks in allege if you can assist.

I have a Toro Pace mower as well….bought it in Fall of 2006. This is the biggest piece of junk. Even though I shut it down for the season according to the instructions, I can never start it the next Spring without taking it in the shop. This happened again tonight, it won’t start. I have a similar issue that once it does start and you try to start it after it’s been running, don’t dare push the primer or anything as it won’t start. The "guaranteed to start on the second pull" slogan is the biggest joke I’ve seen. AVOID THIS LAWNMOWER AT ALL COSTS!
