must be a 4 stroke, as 2 stroke engines need a gas/oil mix.

I am looking for either two stroke lawn mowers or a 4 stroke but with oil pump. Or is there a company that builds mowers that can built about 10 units for me. Reasong being most of my work is done on a 30 - 45 degrees slope. If you know of a place please let me know.

I have an old lawn mower that was handed down to me from a friend that I've had for a couple years. For the first mow this spring I was in a hurry and stupidly put two-stroke oil into the crankcase (not gas tank) of the four-stroke mower. The two-stroke oil was straight, unmixed two-stroke oil; it had not been mixed with gasoline. I ran the mower for about three hours that day. I stopped and started it several times without any problems, and it ran just fine. It wasn't smokey or sputtering at all. But I went to start it again today, a week later, and I can't get it started. I realized my mistake and I plan on changing the oil, air filter, and spark plug tomorrow. But has the damage already been done? If I just drain the oil and re-fill with 30W oil, will it run ok?
its hard to say two stroke oil is very thin, but as long as the motor hasn't seized up then replace the oil clean or replace the spark plug you should be ok.

I have a used craftsman eagle-1, 4.0, 20 inch blade rear bagger I just bought at a swap meet and I assume it was a 4 stroke but then I over thought it, so here we are at the question? lol I just want to make sure before I gas it up! Thanks ahead!
oh yea! duh! thanks!!! It has separate oil reservoir, thus I should of known the answer!(my brains out of order today) Thanks guys (n girls) for the answers! its a four! (its an older model thats what initially got me wondering)
One easy way to tell is to look if it has a place for you to put oil in. Four stroke engines take oil in the crank case so if you have a place to fill it with oil it is a 4 stroke. Two stroke engines, on the other hand, us a gas/oil mixture. If there is not place to put oil in the crank case it is a two stroke engine.
please help. my husband is mad. i didnt knolw that that gas can had two stroke oil mixed in it.
It should be OK. It may foul the plug with some time of running and put a little smoke out as it runs. But it should be fine.
Just run it out. What ever you do don't wash it out with water. Water will be even more of a problem.
Run the mower until it is empty, then fill it back up.
Use gas stabilizer in the fall so your mower will start next year.

What to do with old bad 2 stroke gas? - North Carolina Woodworker
Two stroke mixed gas won't usually harm lawnmowers or other small 4 stroke engines other than fouling the spark plugs - not unlike what it does to a 2 stroker. I do the same thing with mine - usually mix it with some 93 octane & run it in the mower or generator. Just don't use it on anyting fuel injected or with a catalytic converter like a California lawnmower. I understand they have emissions controls on mowers & string trimmers there. Thanks! A while back I bought a cheap gas container intending to replace my old mower one and it turned out to be one of those that you have to practically disassemble the nozzle to switch from sealed to pouring mode and the spout doesn't seal so you...
