Why do most landscapers use commercial walk behind mowers when the cost of a brand new garden or yard tractor is so much less? I was looking to start up a buisness and I found that a 8 - 10 year old walk nehind commercial walk behind mower (36-48 inches) is the same price as a brand new tractor? Anybody with lawn mowing buisness experiance an answer would be appreciated. Thanks!
Commercial lawn mowers are built for just that. Mowing, and a lot of it. They are designed to mow the largest area , for as little time as necessary and transported to the next job. They are also to be used everyday.
Garden tractors are designed to be used once a week, and designed for other uses as well. Attempting to use a garden tractor for commercial use will work, for a while but the tractor will need replaced after the first season or two. Most commercial will mow more grass in a month than most homeowners will mow in three years.

Since its been mentioned a in a few other posts- lets do a little comparison from a few years ago. A John Deere STX 38 had the same engine, same transmission, and same differential as the commercial walk behind from John Deere, however the components inside where NOT the same. So if you used a homeowner rider to do the same as a commercial walker, the rider would wear out faster because it wasn't built to take the abuse, the frame wasn't strong enough either. The commercial walk behind will last a LONG time if you take care of it (grease it /change blades daily, change oil, filters, plugs, etc on a routine basis, it will last quite a few years over a residential rider. BTW- you WILL look more professional when you are making great stripes over the yard and it looks like a professional baseball field when your done.
I have a 32 inch walk behind commercial lawn mower made by Toro. It seems like the grass looks uneven when I mow. When I cut with my 22 inch regular lawn mower made by John Deere, the grass looks all right. Why does my $500 mower do a better job at cutting than my $4,000 mower?
I also had a problem with this. I have a 61" Bobcat that has three blades, the middle spindle was loose so the blade had a bit of a angle when I cut. You could have the same deal, or you have hit a stone and bent the blade. It also could be you need a blade sharpen..You could also check your height adjustments at your front castor wheels and rear drive wheels..make sure they are the same setting...Good Luck!

Its on a 32 inch cut commercial Bradley walk behind mower. How do I know what engines have the same bolt pattern so I know what engine I could get to replace the B&S. Are they universal as far as bolt patterns for installation or are they different? Also, how hard is it to install a new lawn mower engine how long would it typically take thanks for any advice
I ordered a new engine from a small engine repair shop it has to do with shaft size I had an 8hp got a 12hp one half hour to one hour to put in two people three years ago runs great $550 for the engine

I own a 48" Exmark. I have owned the typical home depot type brands of mowers and they have not held up to the abuse that some places dish out. For an example, one yard I mowed bi-weekly without any problems. The owner had a company put a fence up, one of the fence co. employees threw a broken come along into the grass and forgot about it. Well I struck it with the exmark and the wire got all tangled in the blades and stalled the engine with a very sudden bang. I thought the spindles were broke at the very least, after about a half hour I got everything untangled did a quick inspection of the machine fired it up and finished cutting the grass. Had to replace blades they were ruined but that was it.

Commercial walk behind commercial lawn mower are those that you walk behind rather than riding. In order from them to cut the grass they’ll need to be pushed thru the grass. Sit on mowers are often much costlier than walk behind mowers. Unless you are regularly cropping a space of more than one acre it isn’t actually worth the extra money to buy a riding mower. Walk behind mowers come in numerous different types including push reel, electrical, cordless, gas, and commercial.
Commercial walk behind mowers will have a wider cut and a large capacity thick roll formed catcher which is formed with a strong steel mesh. They are generally powerful enough to handle stones and include special grip handles for comfort and ease when you are lifting and emptying the catcher. The majority of the time commercial walk behind mowers will fold for simple storage and transport.
