Yard Machine Lawn Mower Parts

I have a yard machine lawn mower question. I need to figure out what is wrong with it?

I have a yard machine lawn mower. Here's my problem.!
It won't start. This lawnmower is a self propelled version. It has a lever you hold to the handle that when you release it cuts the mower off. And has another handle you pull to get the mower going forward. The mower won't start. The last time I had this problem I moved the lever rapidly that you have to hold to keep it running, And it started. But it took alot of moving the lever till it finally would start. Now it won't start at all. I checked and it's getting fuel, But no spark. So I don't know if what ever that lever goes to is the culprit and is a cut off switch that is not allowing spark to the plug, Or if my Magneto shot. Can someone tell me how to check what is wrong with it so I can either repair, or replace the right part. I am a mechanic. And can fix almost anything. But I haven't worked on a lawnmower in a long time. Can someone please steer me in the right direction.

The safety cut off switch which is the lever that you are talking about would most likely be the culprit that is cutting off the spark to your engine i would try to remove the cable and pull on the cable with a pair of vice grips and try to start that way to confirm that the cable is working or not then i would trace the problem with the lever from the handle down to the motor.
if this does not lead you in the right direction then it may be the switch itself that is not working and not the cable.

My Yard Machine Lawn Mower Won't Start?

I have a 600 series yard machine and a couple of weeks back when I turned the key to start it, it acted like the battery was dead. I jumped it off from my car with no problem. I had planned to charge the battery but forgot. The next week when I went to mow the yard, again it acted like a dead battery but this time when I jumped it from my car, connecting to the battery terminals, it acted like there was a dead short, nothing happened. I found that if I connected the positive cable to the started motor then after turning the key on and touching the negative lead to a grounded part of the chasis, the starter turned over and the motor started and ran perfectly. Can someone tell me what is wrong and needs to be changed?
Thanks
Ben P.

Disconnect the battery cables then jump start to the positive terminal on the starter with the neg. jumper cable to the chassis, I bet it starts ( key must be turned on. ) Sounds just like my annual problem with a dead battery. They don't always just die. Mine always get a short internally. I have to disconnect the battery for it to run.
Edit: After reading your question again I think you should check the solenoid as suggested. Do this by disconnecting the battery and attaching the jumper cables to the battery cables on the mower. You need to disable the seat safety switch for it to start. Do this by putting a piece of paper between the contacts. It is just below the front of the seat.

Which Lawn Tractor (Mower) should I buy?

I'm looking to purchase a new lawn tractor. After purchasing a Yard Machine last Sunday for $1000.00 and having the motor blow up after mowing part of my completely flat 1/2 acre I have ddecidedI would like ssomethinga little nicer. I have singled it down to a couple tractors and I need all of your help on picking the best buy for my money and the one that will last the longest. Excepting other recommendations Just stay around $1500.

1. Husqvarna YTH20K46. Kohler 20HP Motor. Auto Transmission. 46" Cut. $1600 with a 10% off making it $1440.

2. Cub Cadet LTX1040. Kohler 19HP Motor. Auto Transmission. 42" Cut. $1500.

3. Craftsman YT 3000. 22HP Auto. Auto Transmission 42" Cut. $1600.00

4. I have also been looking at the Craftsman LT 2000 series although I am not sure of the quality. I have heard some bad things about the Briggs & Stratton motors. The one I was looking at has a 19.5HP Briggs & Stratton Gold engine. 42" Cut. Auto Transmission. $1170. This is much cheaper... but again the quality thing. I don't want to be working on it all the time.

PLEASE HELP! I want to buy tonight :).

either the husky or the cub cadet but i would go with the husky they know how to build equipment

What do I use to mow my yard?

just bought a house with 2 acres in WI, steep incline on part (more than 45 degrees and mud under the grass). Tried a little (lowest model of riding style mower) john deere and it kept wanting to tip and it would loose traction on the hills What to do????? Prior owners had very expensive lawn service. Is there a machine I can get to tackle this task?? Thanks, Catherine

I would recommend a zero turn rider. The will get the job done quickly and be able to handle the hills. Just do not cut across the hill, but with the hills. Cub cadet makes a decent model of zero turn for around $3500. Just get the better model the zt. Do not get the rzt, they are cheaper, but so is the quality.
