I found quite a decently priced cordless rechargeable reel mower. But is strength/exercise still required to use these devices? And are they just as effective as normal lawn mowers?
Go green and get a push mower the health and monetary benefits are much better and you don't have to worry about stinky smells when you try to start the darn thing(if you can start it at all). Push mowers are easier to store and low maintenance too.

I live on a small lot. I also have a standard lawn mower. However, I find it difficult to use/start up. Since my husband is away on business, I'm thinking about purchasing either a reel mower or an electric one. But, I wouldn't want a cordless electric mower coz to me charging a battery overnight would be a hassle. Do you think it would be difficult to work with an electric one coz of the cord? I've never mowed the lawn before so I'm not accustomed to mowing the lawn with or without a cord. So I don't think it'll make a difference. But, I still need advise. Reel or Electric? I've never mowed a lawn before! Help =)
Hi, Joice,
I have used an electric lawn mower for nearly 10 years and I have found that it works well for me.
You will need a long extension cord; just make sure the cord is always well on one side of the path you are mowing.
Do not mow a wet or damp lawn; wait for it to dry.
The mowed grass will build up a little on the underside of the lawn mower; remove this build-up with a little garden trowel.
That way, the lawn mower will always be lighter to push.
Happy mowing!

Different Types Of Reel Mowers
Unlike the rotary mowers you're used to, reel lawn mowers don't have an engine, relying instead merely on sharp blades and the muscle-power of the operator. Their blades also spin differently than those of a rotary mower. While a rotary mower's blades spin on a plane parallel to the ground, the blades of a reel lawn mower spin at an angle perpendicular to the ground. Cordless mowers work best if your lawn is 1/3 of an acre or less, and if you keep your lawn mowed regularly. They're not effective for larger lawns or for tall grass, since either condition puts a lot of strain on the battery. And pushing them up hills can put a lot of strain on the operator, so make sure you purchase a self-propelled...
Lawn Care » Lawn Mowing: Get Reel, Go Gas-free

(ARA) – Warm weather arrives with the melodic chipping of songbirds preparing their nests. What? Can’t hear them? The steady rumble of lawn mowers not only drowns out nature’s melodies, it disturbs wildlife and sleeping neighbors, and is an unhealthy source of summertime air pollution.
Gasoline-powered lawnmowers will soon have to be dramatically cleaner under new rules issued by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The long-awaited regulation requires a 35 percent reduction in emissions from new lawn and garden equipment beginning in 2011. The reductions will be the equivalent of removing one out of every five cars and trucks on the road, according to the National Association of Clean Air Agencies.
