I have the belt almost on. I need to get it around the last pulley (it is below the steering wheel. It looks like a pulley and then a shaft and then another pulley with a belt.) The last pulley has 3 metal brackets around it (to prevent the installed belt from coming off) that give about a quarter of an inch clearance around the pulley, but the belt is a half inch thick. Please help

try moving the gear shift lever or brake/clutch pedal - I think that will move the pulley - I have one up in the mtn house and I replaced the blade spindle, but don't exactly remember - I don't think u have to loosen up any bolts

It's a Craftsman 42 inch die hard IC/Gold riding lawn mower.

I took a picture of the existing deck on my Toro before I changed mine. If that's possible try doing that so you will have something to refer back to. Most decks are self contained except for the drive shaft that drives the belts, make sure that it is aligned correctly and it shouldn't be a problem.

I have a Poulan riding lawn mower with a 42 inch cut briggs and stratton motor what kind of oil does it use?

They have a lawn mower oil at Auto Zone or Advance. it only comes in one weight so you cant go wrong. i have the exact same mower and have had no problems using that oil. Don't forget to check your axle grease and make sure it is full too.

The job size requires a riding lawn mower.

It depends on the area and your experience.
If you are just starting out you could charge about 100 per acre of land, if you are trimming and weadeating, and edging.
If you have been doing it for a while then you could charge $300 for half an acre with all of the same services.
Just mowing on a riding mower, about $60 for starting out and about 100 for experience.
Figure up by about $10-$15 dollars an hour and add in the gas used for mantenence fee.

We need a new rider. Looking at John Deere, Snapper, or Gravely with about a 42 inch cut. Steering wheel or those handles? Wife will be using it most of time.

Take a look at Exmark zero turn mowers. They r a little high on price but u get what u pay for trust me. I sell em at my shop. Very easy to run and operate, I had a guy tell me his mental son could run it and thanked me. 2 year warranty. Very very good.
