i still miss a small strip of grass down the middle of every pass! why?
p.s. i`m sure the blades are the right size!
also, it`s a 42" craftsman command with a 15 horse motor and has the star design in the center of each blade.

Make sure you didnt put the blades on upside down.

Make sure the mower deck is level, left to right and front to back, when lowered to mow. That is the most likely culprit. With the mower on pavement and turned off, lower the deck to the mowing position. Measure the height of each blade tip, from the ground to the blade. Do this with the blades rotated front to back and side to side. The blades must be level, not the lip of the deck.

If there is a belt on the deck, it probably has a tensioner, is the belt running true and tight ? Same goes for your PTO belt from the tractor to the deck if so configured.

Double check that they are the correct length blades.

When inspecting the blades, pulleys, tensioner pulley, be wary of a bearing that is shot and causing a pulley or blade to not track true.

Make sure all belts are routed correctly. That sounds silly, but I have seen lots of belts put on wrong. OK, I admit, I have even done it. ;) When on correctly, the belt should wrap nearly 180 degrees around the blade pulleys in most setups.

When mowing, blade speed is your friend, get them spinning up fast and you mow better, mow frequently enough so you are not removing more than 1/3rd of the grass length, usually less than one inch of removal for most yards.

Did you clean out the mower deck when changing the blades ?

You have probably thought of most of these things already, but thats my two cents, good luck.

Hi! I need help finding out how to repair my AutoDrive 42" 17HP Murray Riding Lawn Mower Widebody LT. We were mowing and hit something, the blade broke and the part or parts that holds the blade is broke/loose. Can someone please tell me what parts I will need to fix this. Best way to see whats happened - pull the deck off. Heres a link to your lawntractors parts list :http://jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm - type in your model number under 'model' section - it appears you have a 2002 model.
Your 'mandrel' or deck spindle assy part number is :1001200MA - if you need a blade :095100E701MA - if you need a pulley -494199MA. Most lawntractors sometimes have a small block that bolts to the end of the spindle assy - apparantly yours dosent ( its designed that way). To replace the mandrel , its probably in the $60 range , pulleys( if needed) are like $15 - if a new blade is needed ( buy a set- not just one) theyre usually around $10-20 ( depending if its a mulching blade - theyre more - i bot two for my Murray and they were like $18 a piece). Any tractor parts place should be able to get those parts - ive also seen them at Tractor supply.
While the deck is off, it probably would be a good time to clean it, check the other mandrel housings/berings- replace if needed.
