Have a ACE Limited Edition 18.5hp lawn mower that starts right up but iam unable to put in to gear,knob goes forward&reverse but nothing happens, its like it in nutural but it not cause u cant even psh it. Thought it might be the parking break, but i dont beleive it is because that dose release when pulled. ANY HELP??????Thanks,Karen

The mower has all new belts on it also. No matter what you do, it will not go anywhere.

you might have loose or broken pulley. tension spring broke or not on. belts could be on wrong. trans axle in neutral and or need fluid maybe broke.

If the belt is turning the transmission pulley, and you can feel it "clicking" thru the gears, you may have a sheared 1\4" key stock on the drive axles.
Have you had the tires and rims of recently, maybe to fix a flat tire. If so, when you pulled the wheel off, you dropped or lost the square key.
Next time you start it, put it in gear and see if the drive shafts are turning inside the wheel. look at BOTH sides.

the engine runs ok but as i go along it like it slips in and out of gear

Does it have a hydrostatic transmission or a belt?
If it has a belt it could need a new one or maybe it's too loose.
If it has the fancy transmission it could need more oil or the filter is clogged up.

If you have a stick shift that move by it self into neutral and you have to hold the stick in the gear so it will not shift out. Your gear box could have worn gears. Not a good thing.

You may have two problems by the sound of it. First you need to check the seat safety switch because it sounds as if that isn't making contact with the bottom of the seat. When you try to shift it into gear the safety shuts the mower down because the safety thinks nobody is sitting on the mower. It's less likely that the linkage for the shifter is broken or just loose. While your under there take a look for a small box looking thing that should be placed by the NEUTRAL setting. The box is a safety device to make you place the transmission in neutral before you can start the mower. Sometimes you can unplug it and the mower will start but if it's a newer mower than it may be loose and just needs to be tightened up. If you find either one of those to be the problem, than go to your nearest auto parts store and get a tube of LOCK-TIGHT and coat the threads before you tighten everything up. I'll bet you find a loose seat safety switch.
