Toro Lawn Mower Gas

Why would a Toro lawn mower won't keep running?
a day every father dreams of

This Toro Personal Pace lawn mower was left with fuel for a year or two. I cleaned the carburetor, replaced the oil, replaced the spark plug, checked the air filter, and put new gas. When I use starting fluid or prime 5-10 times, it starts. But it won't keep running. It dies after few seconds.

What could be the problem? Please help!

It sounds like you did everything necessary to get it running after it sitting around for that amount of time. I would bring it to the Toro dealer. Its probably something you just can't do on your own.

My toro lawn mower will run for 5 secs and then stall out. Please help.?
My 6.75 HP Lawn Mower - 1

I have a Toro GTS 6.0hp lawn mower. Model #20023. I can't figure out why it keeps stalling out. I have changed the spark plug, cleaned the caribrator, cleaned the gas tank out, put a new fuel line on and nothing has worked. Please help.

I am a mechanic and it sounds like you covered the bases, might check the coil or the pick up. There can't be much else that could fail. (carburetor)

Lawn Mower - Air Filter Question?

I have a 5hp Toro gas lawn mower, a few weeks ago the air filter (a paper rectangular one) and its plastic casing fell off in front of the mower and I ran over it, causing the bits to go all over the lawn. Needless to say I need to buy a new air filter and plastic casing for this.
Before this accident, I needed to take off the filter and spray inside behind it that metal part that has a little eyelit with Quickstart to get it going.
I have been operating the mower for about a month or so now without the air filter, always spraying Quickstart into that mystery part to get it going.
Last night I replaced the spark plug and bought a new air filter. The filter isn't on yet as I also need to find where to buy the plastic casing to fix it into place. I noticed that the mower will start if I tip it forward a bit so a bit of the gas or whatever is behind that mystery metal part where the air filter should be gets there then I pull the plug.
My questions are:
1. What type of damage have I done by operating without the air filter?
2. What is that metal thing behind the air filter? Again, the best description is a metal eyelit. Must have something to do with gas as making that wet starts the engine.
3. What does Quickstart do? I got this mower for free and the lady who gave it to me (I don't know her) said the problem with the mower starting was the air filter and I always needed to spray behind it with the Quickstart. What's the deal with this? Any idea?
Any help or suggestions would be awesome

Thanks

The metal piece behind the air filter is the choke. The damage you do by running without the air filter is internal to the cylinder and the piston. It is increased wear and then loss of compression. The need of the quick start says the unit has a priming problem. Take it to a service center and get a tune up. Good Luck.

Help to keep my Toro lawn mower running!?

I have a Toro self propelled walk behind mower I purchased approx. 4 years ago. I have never had a problem with it until yesterday. It will start, idle for 2-3 seconds and stop. I do this over and over and it will not continue running. I changed the oil, air filter, put in new gasoline, and made sure the oil/gas lids are on as tight as possible to prevent air from sucking in.
Now this wouldn't be urgent with the exception of having two potential buyers coming to look at my home tomorrow! My lawn looks like a pasture! I looked at the top to see how to remove the metal plate and it appears I need a special tool to do so. Please, anyone have any ideas? There is no way I can load that mower into my truck by myself to take it to a shop. Help!!!

It is most likely the diaphragm. The only way to fix it is to replace it. Here is a link that may help.

Lawn mower oil to gas ratio?

So I just received my first lawn mower and I have no idea what or how much oil to mix with the gas. It is a old self propelled Toro

Make sure it is a two stroke engine as most lawn mowers these days are four stroke and don't need oil mixed with gas (it is separate like a car). If it is a two cycle engine it might have the proper ratio of gas to oil on the gas cap or on the engine. If you are unsure check the Toro website.
50-1 2.6oz per gallon gas
32-1 4 oz per gallon
16-1 8 oz per gallon

My lawnmower (1 year old Toro Recycler gas mower) won#39;t start….has ...

We had left gas as well as oil in it over the winter…..have now emptied as well as transposed gas as well as oil. Added fuel complement cleanser also. We someone sprays starter liquid upon it it runs while it is being sprayed, though stops flattering shortly thereafter (so I don't consider the the hint plug). Somebody referred to to me that it is a fuel line complaint as well as the engine is only not removing the gas. If that is so how can I repair it? Thanks!

If it runs on starting fluid the plug and everything is OK except it not getting fuel. Check to see if the fuel has a shutoff valve on it and it is on.(sometimes we forget) ……..The next thing that has probably happened is that a piece of dirt or bad fuel has clogged the main jet in the carb…The only way to check is to remove the carb bowl and pull the float and needle valve out and the check the main jet. Sum of the jets will unscrew not all you will have to look. or you can just take a small piece of wire and clean. Put it back together and try it. this a common problem. I have had this problem before its not hard to fix. Hope this helps…
