We probably have only used it 4 or 5 times on our smaller lawn. We were using it in pretty long grass when it started and we cleaned the grass out, the blade is sturdy and can't see anything that it might be hitting. It almost seems like it might be more in the engine. Any Ideas?
CHECK THE OIL LEVEL NOW.
i would take the mower to be looked at while it's still underrwarrantyy. check your owners manuel as to where to take it. once thewarrantyy period is up it will then be on you to pay to have it fixed.
that's a quality mower so don't hesitate to have it looked at NOW.

When the motor is running the blade is turning, the pull handle/lever ingauges only the wheeles
When the motor is running the blade is NOT turning when I pull up on the lever the wheeles turn and the blade still does not turn. no belts to check .
if it has a lever that you depress to start the blade it has a clutch assembly on the bottom that will to be replaced. my honda is set up like that.
Generally, is it cheaper to repair the self-propel or is this one of those repairs it will be cheaper to buy a new mower?
If it is less than a year old, return it. You will get your money back.
I have a self propelled toro and when i start the motor it sounds like it should, but when i start mowing it makes a loud knocking noise. Any suggestions?
check the blades, something may get stuck there, or the blades became loose.
You probably have a problem with the clutch. This is the bit that connects the engine to the moving bits. sounds like you may need an expert to repair it.

For more information, sounds like the mower is working properly. When the engine is running and turns the blades, use the operating system that the road is driving, the road touring with the engine.
EDIT: OK Details Secondly, there is a clutch mechanism that requires attention, either for adjustment or repair. Tto follow their links for a unit above the leaves, which do not make belts directly under the engine when the mower is relatively new, is probably an adaptation. Lawnmower May replace older the clutch.
